Spring Celebrations March 23
Spring is coming and our kiddos are excited to have some parties in their pods!
A Message From PTA:
We will need a few volunteers to help oversee the games. I am adding extra volunteers, so that we can switch out part way through the party so all parents can have some time to hang out with their kiddos.
Click here to volunteer OR to see the list of donations that are needed: http://www.signupgenius.com/go/508084ea8a72ea1fa7-spring
Please have ALL supplies to the school by Wednesday, so that we can divide them up between the grades. Bear in mind that the supplies you send in *might* not go directly to your child's class.
We will have 4 games, and each game will have 2 stations to divide the kids into smaller groups. Everyone will have a snack together at the end of game time, then they will have a few minutes to gather their things and get ready for dismissal.

Musical.ly Parent Guide
Common Sense Media www.commonsensemedia.org
How does Musical.ly work?
Musical.ly users sign up with a phone number, email address, Facebook, or Instagram account. Once logged in, you can search popular "musers," categories (comedy, animals, sports), and hashtags to find videos. Or you can use your phone contacts or social media followers to find friends already on the app. Many kids on musical.ly like to create videos, but plenty of people don't post themselves -- they just use the app to find and follow content creators.
Is Musical.ly appropriate for kids?
Because of Musical.ly's emphasis on popular music, many videos include swearing and sexual lyrics, so it may not be age-appropriate for kids to use on their own. It's also easy to find people wearing revealing clothing and dancing suggestively, although Musical.ly won't let you search for objectionable content such as "sex" or "porn." If you supervise your kids and stick to songs you already know from the radio, Musical.ly can be a kid-friendly experience.
What age is Musical.ly recommended for?
Common Sense Media recommends the app for age 16+ mainly due to the privacy issues and mature content. Musical.ly requires that users be at least 13 years old to use the app and that anyone under the age of 18 must have approval of a parent or guardian -- but there are plenty of young tween musers. If your younger kid or tween wants to use the app, the account should belong to an adult who can monitor what younger users are browsing and sharing.

Another Section of School Road to close March 15
Traffic patterns to change for the remainder of the school year
Next week, School Road will close from the West Peculiar Fire District station to 195th Street for construction. Detour signs will be posted. This final phase of School Road improvements is projected to last about three months. The project is under the direction of the City of Peculiar and Cass County.
The District has established traffic pattern guidelines to help traffic flow during construction:
- Parents with South Middle School students will use the fire station entrance to drop off and pick up on the east side of the school.
- The fire station entrance will also be used for bus traffic.
- High School student drivers will use entrances on School Road or the access road east of Panther Stadium.
- Parents of high school students will drop off and pick up students on the west side of the school.
- Drivers with both high school and middle school students will need to use School Road and follow the route for SMS parents after dropping off or picking
See this traffic map for routes and detours during construction.
School Safety Message from Dr. Monsees
Dear Raymore-Peculiar Parents, Staff, and Community Members,
Safety is always the first priority within schools and communities. Please know we work diligently to ensure everyone is safe at school and school events. The District and local law enforcement have forged a strong partnership over time. The Safe Schools Task Force has been in place for several years where district leaders meet monthly with leaders from the Peculiar Police Department, the Raymore Police Department, the Cass County Sheriff's Office, and the Missouri State Highway Patrol to collaborate about school safety.
District administration and security personnel are in constant communication with Peculiar and Raymore Police Departments. These agencies work collaboratively to support and provide ongoing training and response for emergency situations. Two Campus Supervisors and three School Resource Officers (SROs) provide daily support to the district, along with regular patrols in and around our schools by on-duty officers.
In light of recent events, we are reminded school safety is a community-wide effort. Students, parents, and staff are encouraged to report any school safety concerns as they arise so they may be investigated promptly. If you see or hear something, say something. All threats of violence in or around a school are taken seriously. Reports can be made to any school official, law enforcement agency, or anonymously on the District webpage (https://asp.schoolmessenger.com/raypec/quicktip/).
Social media posts by students that include threat-related information, whether referencing a local school or not, can create additional concerns about safety. Parents are urged to become more aware of their child’s activities and discuss the appropriate use of social media with them.
Thank you for your support as we do all we can to keep our students safe and focused on learning.
Dr. Kari Monsees, Superintendent
Chief Jan Zimmerman, Raymore Police Department
Chief Harry Gurin, Peculiar Police Department
Sheriff Jeff Weber, Cass County
