Thought for the Day
Letter from the Principal
Dear Families,
I cannot thank you enough for the Monstah Cookie Sandwiches and Flower Pots that you have given to the teachers through the PTO. In this transition time where large and small details can make a student's or a staff member's day successful, every kindness, large and small makes a difference. The staff and I are truly appreciative!
In addition, I want to tell you about the teachers' efforts to make the children's lives better. Many teachers are giving families of students who have been fully remote personal tours of the building to show them our Covid protocols and how safe the building is. Personal hygiene with handwashing and sanitizing has become a regular part of the entire school day. Teachers have had lengthy discussions with me about protocols for eating in the classroom when the children are not sitting 6 feet apart. Teachers will choose alternating students to eat at a time for snack. When it is the the class' turn to eat lunch in the classroom (all of the classes cannot fit in the APR and maintain six feet) some children will eat at the guided reading table or the common area between classes. Many teachers have snack and mask breaks outside whenever weather permits.
Rooms are now rearranged or in the process of being arranged to accommodate all of the students. Teachers are excited to see all of the students and are planning every detail. As we adjust to some classes eating in the classrooms and getting the timing right to wheel the food down to the classes, the teachers have stayed in the rooms, even after the assistant arrives to monitor the students, and help me to hand out the food to the students. When a chocolate milk was missing on Friday, the teachers offered to run down to the cafeteria to get it. Of course, this was on their own lunchtime. The teachers' desire to make sure that the students' needs are taken care of throughout the day is remarkable and it is daily. Please know that your children's safety, social-emotional and academic needs are the highest priority for all the staff.
All of this is made easier by the fact that the children are terrific. I have had few discipline issues this year because there are so few children and they are very far apart. In the past two weeks as more students are in the building, there is a return to more typical impulsive decisions with natural consequences. I welcome the return to a more normal year where children are acting like children and am grateful for the mask as I try to maintain a serious face in front of them and not laugh at the silliness of their actions!
As always, please reach out with any concerns or questions that you have.
Sincerely,
Karen

Dismissal
SSS Bus Routes AM/PM
The SSS bus routes are printed in the newspaper, on the LPS website and on the SSS website. Here is the link from the website:
Arrival and Dismissal Traffic: Suggestions from the Police
1. Park on the adjacent streets and walk the kids to the school or crosswalk for those who are able to do so.
SSS - Todd Lane, Elizabeth Way, Taylor Terrace.
2. Form a line up on the same side of the school and take a right turn to drop off, the crossing guard and Police will be encouraging people to do this. This will allow traffic to flow, and is currently in place and working.
3. Take the bus to alleviate traffic and wait times.
4. Do not stay in the parking lot after drop off and pick up.
5. Expect delays and be patient during this time while there may be increased traffic or wait times.
