Attendance Reminders
Unexcused Absence
Good attendance is key for the best possible academic performance. Now that we are in person, we want everyone to take advantage of being in class for immediate teacher support. When there are questions related to content, the best way to get assistance is to be present in class while the content is being taught. RBHS teachers want every single student to succeed. When there are multiple students absent from each class period, it is very difficult for teachers to target assistance for those students because they have to teach new content the next period. We know there are unavoidable reasons students will miss, and we have the “technology know how” to better serve students than we ever did before virtual instruction. Ultimately, it should be easier than it was before virtual instruction to keep students who have to miss school caught up. However, when students are missing class for avoidable reasons, we are putting too much strain on the time teachers actually have to teach. The main issue is that teachers run out of time. The more absences we have, the more “catching up” work is compounded for teachers. This creates an incredible stress because there is only so much time in a class period and in a work day for teachers to be able to help.
Tardy
The main issue with being late to class is that it disrupts the environment of the classroom. Teachers and students who have started class are distracted when students arrive late. We know there will be unavoidable reasons people are late. Our goal is to diminish the disruptions to learning by limiting the avoidable tardies to class.
We greatly appreciate your partnership in helping us achieve these goals as we move into second semester!
2022-23 Course Fair
Be sure to mark January 25th in your calendar for our 2022-23 Rock Bridge High School Course Fair. This event will be held at Rock Bridge from 5:30 pm to 7:00 pm. Counselors will have a presentation that begins at 5:00 to cover registration information and processes. At this event you will be able to learn about all your course options for the 2022-23 school year. We will send more information regarding this event closer to January 25th.
From Counseling
Each student should check their 2nd semester schedule in Home Access before January 4th to make sure they are aware of an schedule changes. While almost all year long classes will remain in the same spot in a student's schedule, there will be some changes to a student's 2nd semester schedule for semester long classes. See the directions below in the document titled "How to Read Your Schedule". The key in locating second semester classes is looking for T3 in the column titled Marking Periods. If you see a T3, that means you have this course second semester. We want to also take this time to remind students that we are not able to change schedules for second semester electives.
