Poet Naomi Jacobs
Jefferson Sixth grade student, Naomi Jacobs, recently submitted a poem to the Young American Poetry Digest Contest.
The Young American Poetry Digest is designed to share our youth’s talents with others, supply a national audience for student writing, and provide a publishing opportunity for young poets. Schools around the nation are invited to participate in the project by submitting their students’ most creative poetry.
Magical Seasons
As winter flees
comes the bees.
Bringing us the flowers
and the long afternoon showers.
In the puddles we stomp and splash
and in the grass we'll dash.
In the Summer there will be lots of fun
splashing in the pool
and having fun in the sun.
Fall comes too soon.
Leaving us to be catching leaves
falling from the to be soon bare trees.
Winter comes fast
bringing snow
leaving everyone freezing cold.
Spring will soon come
reaping the same fun.

Sixth Grade Pangaea
What is Pangea?
Pangea is a super continent predicted by the theory of continental drift. Scientists believe that about 240 million years ago all the continents were one large one called Pangea. The land of Pangea then broke apart due to tectonic plate movement and moved over millions of years.
Mrs. Arcet's sixth grade students created Pangaea on paper and then, using the plate tectonic pieces, put them where the continents are now. Students had an option to do this as a stop animation. They learned the stop animation in art and could apply it to science
This Week's Character Strength Focus: HUMOR
Jefferson is ready for a week of bad jokes!
Making people laugh produces positive emotions and happiness for the initiator. And, when people are on the receiving end of humor, they also receive many benefits. Scientists have shown that laughter reduces stress, promotes connection with other people, and can
even improve focus. Laughter is contagious and bonds us to other people.
WHAT DOES HUMOR MEAN?
You like to laugh and bring smiles to other people.
Individuals with this strength might be described as:
• Funny
• Amusing
• Hilarious
• Witty
• Lighthearted
• Playful
Dear Families,
This week our school community will be focusing on the character strength of Humor. Humor means you like to laugh and bring smiles to other people.
Humor is a sense of playfulness and lightness. It is a way of looking at and describing the world that brings laughter to people. A person with the strength of humor is skilled at seeing the funny side of things, bringing smiles and laughter to others, and identifying and communicating the absurdities in life. People with this strength don’t specifically need to be joke tellers, although many are.
Humor plays an important role in helping groups of people rise above difficult circumstances and boost morale. It removes us from our present difficulties by easing tension and making life more fun. This is why athletic teams often need a jokester to help them get through tough losses and early morning fitness sessions. On a larger societal level, humor often helps downtrodden groups to find cohesion and strength. This is why Simon Wiesenthal said, “Humor is the weapon of unarmed people: it helps people who are oppressed smile at the situation that pains them.”
To practice and encourage the character strength of humor with your child, please visit the Positivity Project’s P2 for Families (password: P2) where together you will watch a video, read a quote and talk about the answers to three questions.
Have a wonderful week!
