From the principal
Dear Parents & Caregivers
Welcome to week 6 of Term 1 2020. As of today, we are half way through the term!
We had a very successful P&C AGM last night. It was again good to see so many new faces and to work with such a strong and supportive parent body. We discussed a number of issues that our school is working on and gained ideas and insights from our parents . We welcome all parents to attend the next meeting on Tuesday April 7 at 7pm.
Unfortunately we are seeing illness effect both students and teachers over the last two weeks. We appreciate parents and carers keeping students home when they are unwell and request they make sure they notify the school of any absences.
We are looking forward to some exciting events at the end of the term, including our Easter Hat Parade on April 8th and school photos on the very last day of term Thursday April 9th. Please ensure you stay up to date with our calendar and don’t hesitate to contact our office for any further clarification.
Best wishes,
Kelly Paton
Principal

Safety at the front gate
A huge thank you to those drivers who are moving down and using the full length of the Kiss and Drop Zone to collect their children in the afternoon. We are now using orange bollards to indicate where students are to stand whilst waiting for their parents. This keeps students away from the edge of the road and also allows a clear passage for bikes, scooters, prams and pedestrians in the afternoon rush.
Selective High School Test 2020
The Selective High School Placement Test will be held on:
Thursday 12 March 2020 from 9.00am to 1.30pm.
Unless parents have made special arrangements with the High Performing Students Team to attend an individually allocated test centre candidates from this school have been sent to:
Elizabeth Macarthur High School
Waterworth Drive
NARELLAN NSW 2567
Go to https://education.nsw.gov.au/public-schools/selective-high-schools-and-opportunity-classes/year-7 to find:
- Test centre allocations by public school.
- A map of test centre addresses under the heading 'The test'.
- The bulletin, Test information for parents and students. The bulletin contains very important information about the test and should be read carefully.
Harmony Day – Everyone Belongs
Harmony Day is a day to celebrate Australia’s cultural diversity. It’s a day to highlight the importance of inclusiveness, respect and a sense of belonging for everyone.
At Harrington Park Public School, we will be completing in-class activities over the week and on Friday 20th March we ask all our students K – 6 to come to school either dressed in orange mufti or in national dress. We ask that students in years 3 to 6 dress in appropriate attire to participate in gala day trials which are occurring on this day. The mufti day will be a gold coin donation and all proceeds will go towards a Harmony Day inspired mural planned for the future.
Easter Hat Parade
Our K-2 students will be proudly parading their Easter hats at 12pm on Wednesday 8th April 2020. The Easter Hat Parade will be held in the quad/cola area and parents are invited to see the creations students have made at school with the assistance of a Year 3 – 6 buddy class.
Wash your germs away!
Frequent hand washing is one of the best ways to avoid getting sick and spreading germs and illness. This week, all teachers will be reminding students of the importance and procedure of good hand washing practice.
These signs have been placed in each toilet block, as well as every classroom as a visual reference for students.

Morning Duty of Care
Our teachers are on duty at school from 8:30am each morning. Unfortunately we have noticed a growing number of students arriving before this time in the mornings. These children are unsupervised. We urge all parents not to send their children to school before 8:30am. We realise that work commitments have an impact, however, should this be an issue for you please consider before school care providers such as Camp Australia.

Dangerous Parking Issues
There have been many complaints and concerns raised regarding parents dropping children off in the entrance of the staff carpark. Then reversing out, narrowly missing children who are crossing the road.
This is a great concern and we please ask you to refrain from stopping here to let your children out, as it places other children in danger.
Thank you for your co-operation.
