Action Required: Read and Submit Plan for Constitution Day
Required Certifications
The purpose of this notice is to provide schools with information regarding the submission procedure for certifying their district’s compliance for constitutionally protected prayer, eye protective devices, and Constitution Day.
Constitutionally Protected Prayer
The U.S. Department of Education (USED) requires that each local or intermediate school district or public school academy, as a condition of receiving funds under any portion of the Elementary and Secondary School Act (ESEA) of 1965 as amended, annually certify, to the state agency, that it has no policy that prevents, or otherwise denies participation in, constitutionally protected prayer in public schools. A district’s failure to submit the required certification may result in the district’s loss of funding under ESEA.
Eye Protective Devices
State law requires all public schools and public school academies to provide adequate eye protective devices for students enrolled in courses where danger to the eye exists [MCL 380.1288]. Administrative Code Rules governing Eye Protective Devices require that all public schools and public school academies certify compliance with this requirement.
Constitution Day
Public Law 108-447 requires all educational institutions receiving federal funds to hold an educational program on the United States Constitution on September 17, 2017, for the students served by the educational institution. Questions regarding this program may be directed to Jim Cameron at 517-241-9913 or cameronj3@michigan.gov.

Oakland Schools Tech Service Desk - Reminder
This information was shared at the end of last year, but it has been a long summer.
The new OS Service Desk is online and available. Please see the attached documentation for instructions.
During our conversion of the open tickets from the old system, email messages went out from our new service desk system to the ticket reporter. The ticket link in those messages is invalid. Moving forward, the ticket link will be correct. To view your converted tickets, please log into the service desk system.
To log into the new service desk software, your Username will be your email address. If you are at Oakland Schools or at one of our field service districts, your account is automatically set up and your password will be the same password you use to log into your workstation in your district. If you were on our old system but are not in a field service district, you can click on Forgotten your password? to generate a password. For all other users, you can create a new account by clicking Sign up for an account.
There are still three ways to contact the service desk for support.
1. Log into the service desk system to create a ticket
2. Send an email message to servicedesk@oakland.k12.mi.us
