"March"ing into Reading
Read Across America kicked off March 1st, which coincided with Dr. Seuss's birthday. In the library we are celebrating the cultural diversity of America. Students are encouraged to check out a book, read it and write a review from our Graham Reads Together display. Completed reviews will receive an Awesome Act. A few of the new books featured on our display are: Garvey’s Choice by Nikki Grimes, Everlasting Nora by Marie Miranda Cruz, My Family Divided the true story by Diane Guerrero. Other favorites we've included are: Esperanza Rising by Pamela Munoz, El Deafo by Cece Bell, Dragonwings by Lawrence Yep and Code Talker by Joseph Bruchac.
We are also celebrating women this month with International Women's Day (March 8) and Women's History Month. Come check out our "Herstory" display as you enter the library.
March 31 is Cesar Chavez's birthday, the American civil rights and peace activist. Along with Dolores Huerta, who recently spoke at Graham, they co-founded the National Farm Workers Association in the 1970’s. The group’s rallying cry, "Sí se puede" which Huerta coined during Chavez's twenty-five day fast in Phoenix, Arizona, can still be heard today at many rallies and demonstrations. Come browse and check out the many books on Cesar Chavez's life and legacy that we have in the library.
Lastly, it's time for MARCH BOOK MADNESS! Our popular contest returns (March 20-April 12) where the 16 most popular and circulated books of the school year battle in a fun four-week contest! More details on March Madness are below.

Return Library Books please
Spring is a busy time for our Graham Bears. Please remember to bring back your library books on time.
Can't remember where your books are? Check at home, in backpacks and in classrooms for missing or overdue books.
Parents, please help your student to find and return any overdue library books. Lost or damaged books will need to be replaced.
Students can check their gmail account for an overdue notice (parents receive a copy too). Returning an overdue book means another student gets the chance to enjoy it.
