Gladiator News

Dr. Hector P. Garcia Middle School

February 27- March 3, 2017

Greetings Gladiator Community,

This week our 8th graders entered their course selections for high school. The high school will mail a copy of the course selections to the student's home in the near future. Any changes would be handled through the high school counseling office.

Report cards will be issued on Thursday, March 2nd due to our early release on Friday, March 3rd. Students may wear their PE uniform to school on Friday. (Backpacks are not needed.) Students will participate in three rotations: physical fitness, writing, and math. They will also receive a Gladiator GRIT lesson on integrity. Our 7th graders will receive a Bahama Bucks sno cone for being the winners of Gladiator Games in October!

Our attendance is on the rise, which means everyone is feeling better! We are hopeful that our Gladiators can begin the spring time illness free!

Good luck to our choir students as they compete in UIL this week!

Science Bowl

Last weekend, the Hector Garcia Science Bowl Teams participated in the San Antonio Regional Science Bowl at John Jay HS. The red team, composed of 8th graders Caedmon B., Ian H. and Marcus B., along with 7th graders Brett L. and team captain Ronald Z. flew through the first round of the competition and made it to double elimination. They demonstrated amazing teamwork and outstanding science knowledge. Our blue team, comprised of 8th graders Annie F., Alyson P., Joyce H. and captain Jennie L. were shining examples of Gladiator grit battling through illness and a missing teammate for a chance to move on in the competition. The green team, made up of 8th graders Leala P., Kristhi K., Krupa A., Roopa M. and captain Sonia R. also performed admirably and demonstrated poise and grace in all their matches. Please congratulate these science super stars on an amazing performance and a successful season! Thank you to our science bowl coaches Mrs. Beck and Mr. Villarreal! Great job Gladiators!
