What you really need to know
Happy Birthday to Benjamin who turned six this week! Maybe by the end of the year they'll all add up to my age collectively.

What we've been up to.
- We had another great week in Writer's Workshop! We practiced telling more oral stories about what we do in the morning and how we get to school. Then we drew and wrote about our stories.
- We practiced writing numbers 1-4 the kindergarten way.
- We tried out some new choices this week including painting with q-tips, jigsaw puzzles and a hunt for alphabet letters in our sensory table. Your students have also been introduced to the Daily Must-Do, which is a required activity during their center/choice time. Your students have demonstrated great responsibility for completing the must-do each day :)
- We figured out how to make groups of small cuisenaire rods equal in length to one big rod. So now we know that 4 small units equals one rod that is 4 units long. Which sets the stage for 1+1+1+1=4. Or 3+1=4 or 2+2=4. Obvi.
- We read about Pete The Cat. If you don't know Pete, see the link below!
- We had our first visit to the Tech lab for some computer time. We all learned how to log in, use our favorite A to Zap software, and log out.
- We posted our awesome self portraits in the hall.
- We all signed a promise to follow our kindergarten rules. Your children had some big words to contribute to our discussion about school behavior like respect, responsibility and kindness. They are making my job pretty easy!

The things kids say. For real.
This one comes from a parent email. Thanks for sharing!
You never know what your child will say about school until you ask.
Student: "it's not really free choice, mum... It's not like I can do whatever I want. I have to pick from the things Ms. Cohen says. That's not a free choice."
Editor's Note: Yes, but you have free will in a carefully-orchestrated-for-safe risk-taking-and-independent-decision-making learning environment. Which is more important! You'll thank me later.
