2023-2024 School Year :: Week of January 29, 2024
A Message from Mrs. Hankins
JSE Families and Friends,
We're celebrating 100 days of school and the 1,000th day for fifth graders! Life and time are funny. It doesn't feel like it's been 100 days with only 80 more to go, but then again, it seems as if we've been here forever in that cozy, safe, feeling you get when it feels like forever. But just because we are cozy, doesn't mean we aren't going to stretch ourselves and keep working hard!
Teachers and I meet regularly to discuss the growth of our students. They are often not content to just let our students stay where they are, but challenge them to be their personal best where ever that be in their learning continuum. Below you can see a snapshot of our Indiana GPS indicators and see our progress. We are so lucky to have staff that look at the whole child and support them, but also know they can continue to be awesome!
I hope you also have somebody in your corner rooting for you each day, celebrating the wins big and small, loving you unconditionally but also holding you accountable to high standards.
You are loved at JSE,
Mrs. Hankins
Updating Harmony Demographic Information
Harmony Updates
We need your help! Please check in your Harmony demographic information that we have phone numbers and emails for all guardians listed. We need this information as they roll over and process accounts. As an incentive, Mrs. Minton and Mrs. Hankins will give each student of families that are updated a prize for helping us update!
To do this:
1. Log into your Harmony account. You can find Family Access here.
2. Scroll down to update demographic information.
3. Click the link and update guardian info. Make sure your cell phone number, call carrier, and email are correct.
4. Once submitted this will notify Mrs. Minton and she will send your prize with your child.
Thank you for your assistance with this matter!

Meet the Staff at JSE
Mrs. Willis
Mrs. Willis is our music teacher at JSE and UCE. She is a wonderful person to share the love of music with our students. Not content on having students learn notes and instruments through your standard recorder, Mrs. Willis provides opportunities for students to learn keyboards and the ukulele in class! She sponsors our JSE Choir, puts on performances for K-2 at Christmas alternating JSE and UCE, and offers a 3-5 talent show as well. We are so lucky to have a quality musician and supporter of our students in Mrs. Willis!
Yearbook Orders
Inclement Weather Protocol (repeat)
If we need to close school we can have a "traditional" snow day and have the day off. These would result in us making up the day in one of our snow days in February.
We are allowed three asynchronous days, or e-learning without the teacher supporting, where students do the work assigned to them on their chromebooks or packets. We use one of these for elementary conferences each year. This counts as a day of school.
Next, we are allowed as many synchronous days as needed. These days we will be online but with teacher support. The elementary schedule is posted below. This counts as a day of school.
As weather gets sketchy, we may be sending Chromebooks back and forth in the event of a possible closure. This does not mean we will certainly have a virtual day, but just preparation.
If you ever have any questions, please reach out to the office or your child's teacher.
