Arrival and Dismissal Reminders
If you plan to walk your child into school, you must go through the car rider line and then park and walk your child across at the crosswalk. I would encourage you to walk/bike to school because there is always an increased amount of car riders the first few weeks of school. Please be patient as we have many new families that are learning our new routines.
Vehicle Cards:
You will receive your yellow vehicle cards during “Meet the Teacher” on August 15th. Please print your child(ren)’s name in LARGE, DARK letters so the duty personnel can call for the student. Place the card in the window/dashboard of your vehicle. This card must be visible to the car rider line caller. This will help speed the dismissal loading process. If you do not have the yellow vehicle card for your child or a child you are picking up you must come inside the main office. For the protection of all of our students and based on the recommendations from the Fort Mill School District Office, you MUST have the child’s yellow vehicle card if you wish to pick up that student. We no longer release students unless you have the child’s yellow card. You will need to get the child’s card from the parent/guardian prior to pickup OR come into the office and get a yellow vehicle card from Hope Trigg, Receptionist.Transportation Changes:
If your child needs to go home a different way than usual, (for example, ride the bus instead of car rider) you must send a note with your child to his/her teacher. Otherwise, they will be sent home the usual way. If you realize during the school day that your child needs to go home a different way than usual, please call and email Sharlene James (jamess@fortmillschools.org) and Hope Trigg (triggh@fortmillschools.org). They will ensure your child and his/her teacher are aware of the change in transportation. All changes must be communicated to the office before 1:00 PM. It is the parent’s responsibility to notify daycares of changes prior to dismissal time.Early Dismissal:
Parents are requested to enter by the front door, come to the school office, and sign out their child. Students leaving early must be signed out in the office and be dismissed only to a parent or approved family member. This procedure is for your child’s protection – please keep information updated to facilitate this function, especially in emergency situations or early weather related school closings.
There will be no dismissal between 1:55 - 2:20 PM to prevent interference with instruction and eliminate any congestion in the car rider line. If you plan to pick up your child from school, please follow the designated pick-up procedures, as there will be lots of traffic, both cars and buses, around the school at this time. We prefer advance notice of changes in your student’s afternoon transportation and that they are in writing to the homeroom teacher.
Independence Day
Our first day of school for students in grades Kindergarten-5th will be on Monday, August 19th. Doors will open at 7:05 and you are welcome to walk your child to their classroom until Wednesday, August 21st. On Tuesday, August 27th (Independence Day) we will begin normal drop off procedures for all students, which means students will either be dropped off by bus or will be dropped off in the car rider line. The quicker we can establish these morning procedures, the smoother and easier it is for the students.
Visiting for Lunch
Visiting for Lunch:
We welcome family members to join their students for lunch throughout the school year. This year, the stage will not be used for lunch seating. This will allow other activities to take place on the stage as needed throughout the school day. Instead, each grade level will have designated tables available in the cafeteria for parents and visitors.
Please note that if your child is in 4th or 5th grade this year, their lunch time will look a bit different as we will allow children to have choice seating with their friends. This new policy will take a few weeks of implementation and practice before we have it down. Please be patient if you are coming during this time. We believe this will provide an opportunity for students to visit with friends from other homeroom classes, build relationships with new students, and create an overall since of community within their grade levels.
