Message from the Principal

Ramsey Families,

Thank you for all your patience and flexibility these opening weeks of school. We have been working hard to ensure all students and families have technology; can take attendance on Campus; can access Schoology and know how to connect with their teachers. It finally feels like school is in session and learning is taking place! I have a couple of quick announcements:

1. Madame Folley, our French Immersion Social Studies Teacher has taken a job at the district, working on her career goals toward school administration!

2. We are pleased to welcome Madame Rachel Payia Yang to the French Immersion program as the Social Studies teacher!

3. We are also pleased to welcome guest teacher William Bauer, who is covering our French elective class! Thank you for all you are doing to partner with us during online learning.

Be well and be safe,

Ms. Vibar

It's Fall Conference Time

Fall Conferences - Tuesday, October 20, 4-7 p.m. & Friday, October 23, throughout the day!

(Please note these are NEW dates than previously communicated.)

Conferences this Fall will be virtual! Your student's Foundations Teacher will be reaching out to you to schedule a 10 -15 minute conference and will confirm with a meeting link/code. At this conference, we invite you and your student to both participate. Teachers will walk through your student's Schoology grades and invite your student to share their perspectives on strengths, areas of growth and things that are going well and any struggles. Foundations teachers will assist you with connecting with additional teachers as you need. Information regarding preparing for your child's conference will be provided next week.

Big picture

The PBIS behavior matrix is a chart that clearly communicates Ramsey Middle School's expectations for positive behaviors for students during Distance Learning 2.0. It aides teachers and administrators in teaching, modeling, and reinforcing PBIS in all of the areas of learning including the Schoology, Google Meets, iPad usage, and home.

The Salvation Army has begun its coat drive. The Salvation Army’s centers are a place for families in crisis to get help, including coats for their children. Visit any of our Twin Cities Worship & Service Centers to learn about meeting your child’s need for a coat. Supplies may be limited, so we recommend contacting the nearest location before stopping by to find out if supplies are available in the sizes you need.

Families can register with their local Salvation Army:

One of the IB learner profile traits we try to instill in our IB scholars is being balanced. Since the pandemic began, there have been some additional challenges in achieving that for many people, including students doing distance learning. The IB recently published a blog post called "Tips for managing your children's screen time." Educators and parents from around the world weighed in with their best advice--check it out to see if there is something that can help your Ramsey scholar remain balanced during this time.

For any questions about the IB-MYP at Ramsey, reach out to elisabeth.fontana@spps.org.

Don't forget that scholars can place library materials on hold for pick up on Thursdays! We are extending the pick up hours. Materials will be available outside the Summit Avenue doors (door 4) from 8:30AM to 3:00PM. * Scholars may have borrow up to 5 books at a time. * Requests/holds should be placed no later than Tuesday evenings as I prep pick ups Wednesday mornings. * I will send confirmation emails to students on Wednesday mornings. If your scholar does not receive a confirmation, their books are not ready. * Library materials can be returned on Thursdays -- look for the return bin next to the holds cart. Are you interested in participating in a book club with your scholar? Sign up and help me choose the format by filling out this form: http://bit.ly/RMSFamilyBookClub

Comcast Internet Essentials Free Through December

Comcast provides basic wireless Internet called Internet Essentials, and it is free through December. The district will provide a Hotspot, but if you are finding that isn't enough data or you are unable to wait for a ticket to be completed, contact Comcast to apply https://www.internetessentials.com/. If Comcast does not extend the free price after December, you'd have the option to quit when it is no longer free or pay the $9.95/month + tax.
