Friday Flyer for Room 33
January 9, 2014
What are we learning about in 3rd Grade?
In Reader’s Workshop, students are defining and determining the point of view and distinguishing the reader's point of view from that of the narrator or those of the characters. In Writer’s Workshop, students are reading and writing opinion/commentary pieces about a topic of their choice. They are taking that commentary piece through the entire writing process.
Math
Students are working on math skills in Unit 4 which focuses on the categories and attributes of shapes, perimeter, and area. We will also continue to work on rounding numbers to the nearest 10 and 100, as well as addition and subtraction with regrouping. The plan is to take a final test over Unit 4 next Friday, January 17. Students are also practicing multiplication facts and taking timed tests several times a week. Make sure to have your child practice multiplication facts at home as well.
Science/Social Studies
We will begin a geography unit in social studies next week.
