Kilmer Property mtg Cancelled
July 24, 5:30pm - MEETING CANCELLED
WRITE A LETTER, but meeting Cancelled
Hello Neighbors and Friends of the Environment,
Those letters are STILL IMPORTANT, but the Juy 24 meeting has been cancelled for what we think is lack of quorum.
The Kilmers are petitioning the Porter County Plan Commission (first) and then ultimately the Porter County Commissioners (who will decide) to rezone four parcels of land from RL (Residential Lake) to R2 (Medium Density Residential) so that they can build a single family detached home subdivision on the 17.14 acres between Spectacle Dr and Andover Dr. This will maximize the space they can use to build. A large parcel of theirs abutting these four smaller parcels is already zoned R2. (see diagram below)
I would ask you to activate now before Tuesday July 23, 2019.
If you oppose this development, exercise your rights as a citizen to let our County officials know how you feel. There are many arguments against development in this sensitive environmental area: (1) property damage through stormwater flooding and ersion; (2) permanent destruction of the sensitive environment (including the lakes, trees, wildlife); (3) safety hazards on Spectacle Dr (dead end street, no sidewalks, blindspots, etc). You can use the arguments you used last fall when we were opposing annexation into the City of Valparaiso.
Actions:
- REPORT FLOODING and EROSION on your property due to stormwater: If you experience flooding and/or erosion on your property due to stormwater, please make sure that you have reported this to the County Storm Water Management Office. They count the number of complaints they receive and consider that for development purposes. You can report on the website: http://www.porterco.org/index.aspx?NID=970 or by phone to Michael Novotny, the County Engineer: 219-465-3530
- WRITE A LETTER THE PLAN COMMISSION:
Richard W. Burns, President, Laura Blaney, Vice-President, Kevin Breitzke, Brian Damitz, Michael Mirochna, Greg Simms, Kenneth Williams, Luther Williams, Nikky Witkowski, and Robert Thompson, Director
Porter County Plan Commission
155 Indiana Avenue, Suite 311
Valparaiso, IN 46383
And EMAIL your letter to Robert Thompson: planning-intake@porterco.or
I will be in touch again when I have better access to wifi. All of these actions combined will make our opposition to this type of development known.
Thank you! You can do this!
