Prairie Lakes AEA offers Child MHFA
Prairie Lakes AEA is offering Child Mental Health First Aid training for the first time! This is a new training focusing on children ages 5-12. This six-hour training course is designed to teach adults how to help children who are experiencing a mental health challenge or are in crisis.
Child Mental Health First Aid is primarily designed for adults who regularly interact with children.
The training will be held from 8:30 a.m.-3:30 p.m., April 22 at the PLAEA office in Pocahontas. Lunch will be on your own. There is no charge to participate. Class is limited to 30 participants.
This training also meets the Iowa legislation requirement of one hour of suicide prevention training for school districts.
How Child Mental Health First Aid Can Help
- Informs adults about common mental health concerns among children
- Reduces stigma
- Teaches adults how to recognize signs and symptoms of mental health problems in children and youth
- Teaches a 5 step action plan to help children and youth who may be facing a mental health problem or crisis
