GLENDALE ELEMENTARY MARCH NEWS
#FOLLOWYOURDREAMS
MARCH IS HERE!!
Dear Families,
The story for this month is: What Will You Be? by Yamile Saied Mendez and Kate Alizadeh
From Yamile Saied Méndez, acclaimed author of Where Are You From?, comes a stunning lyrical picture book that tells the story of one girl who is always asked a simple question: What will you be when you grow up?
“Méndez and Alizadeh create a balance between the abstract and concrete by letting the child imagine the future but with Abuela’s guidance and support. A sweet read to share with loved ones.” —Kirkus (starred review)
“Turning a common question of childhood into a substantive quest, this imaginative set of plans will have other children charting their own course through the stars.” —School Library Journal
What will you be when you grow up?
A young girl dreams about all the endless possibilities, sparking a sense of wonder, curiosity, and growth. With her abuela’s loving guidance, she learns her potential is limitless.
Yamile Saied Méndez’s powerful, lyrical text and Kate Alizadeh’s colorful, stunning art are a radiant celebration of family, love, and community.
I hope you enjoy it, and always remember to :
Be Safe
Be Responsible
Be Respectful
Take care,
Jennifer Molitor

ATTENDANCE MATTERS
Attendance matters at Prior Lake-Savage Area Schools and collaborating and communicating with families to help get students to school each and every day is a top priority. Chronic absenteeism is prevalent across the country and its impact on student learning is impacted at all grade levels.
Regular attendance fosters a classroom community between teachers and children. Students who attend school are more likely to succeed academically, gain background knowledge from discussions, and also provide time for social interactions with their peers.
Please take a minute to watch Magic Johnson’s message, along with your child(ren), on how important being at school is.

COLD WEATHER APPAREL
We are hoping spring is RIGHT around the corner! However, dressing your child with warm clothes, hats, gloves, snow pants and boots helps students have a fun time in any cold, snowy weather we may still have. (Afterall, we DO live in Minnesota! And March is our snowiest month) **Students will always go outdoors for recess unless the "feels like" temperature falls below -5 degrees or it is steadily raining. Please help to make sure your child is prepared for outdoor recess each day!
**IMPORTANT: BE SURE TO LABEL YOUR CHILD’S JACKET, MITTENS, HAT, SNOW PANTS, AND BOOTS TO HELP PREVENT THEM FROM GETTING LOST!!
