Term 2 Week 2

Resilience

Kia ora e te whānau,

Thank you to all our families for the amazing start to term 2. It is heartening to see that despite the ongoing effects of a Pandemic our students and whānau are showing incredible resilience and tenacity. We do understand that many families are under stress at the moment, and would like to remind you that we are all human and are here to help. Please continue to talk to your tamariki and their teachers so that we can lend a hand if we need to.

We have been working hard at school to ensure that we keep everything as normal as possible. We have also looked at initiatives that we can bring in that will ensure a lighter load for whānau. I will explore some of these further in the newsletter.

It has been fantastic to see our students participating in team sports again. Last week our netballers played some tough games, but their determination shone through and we had nearly all our teams score a win. Well done teams!

Breakfast in Schools

One of the new initiatives that we will be starting this term is Breakfast in Schools. We know that most of our families are well placed for food, however, sometimes, especially with the sharp increases in petrol prices and the current high inflation rate, it becomes slightly more difficult to put kai on the table. We have partnered with Sanitarium and Fonterra to implement a programme called Breakfast in Schools. This means that we are able to provide Weetbix and Milk to those tamariki that want an extra top up in the mornings - or for that matter lunch if they so desire. We are still working through the logistics of this, but from Monday next week we will have the programme up and running.

Pōwhiri

Many thanks to all our whānau that attended our Pōwhiri for new students, staff and whānau last week. Our students really shone and everyone would have been proud of them. Our kaumātua was really impressed by their knowledge and beautiful singing.
