washington DC trip
We are planning to take our 8th graders to Washington DC on May 23rd, 24th, and 25th. The cost of the trip is around $490 per student--for a four person hotel room. Prices increase for a triple, double, or single room. This includes 3 t-shirts that kids will wear while on the trip. We plan to meet with the 8th graders this coming week to review requirements they must meet in order to be able to go on the trip. Appropriate daily behavior will be a significant consideration for attending this trip. More information, regarding payment plans, the itinerary, requirements, and other FAQs, will be sent in the very near future. Thank you!

BMS PTO IS HOSTING A 6TH GRADE SOCIAL!
BMS parent teachers conferences
Conferences will take place on Thursday, October 28th from 4:40--7:30. There are 3 options for conferences this year: virtual through a Google Meet, by phone, or face to face. We want to be sure to accommodate all comfort levels. Remember, if you opt for a face to face conference, masks must be worn and social distancing will be enforced.
We are not able to accommodate "walk in" conferences--all conferences must be scheduled prior to 10/22. Teams will be sending out a Sign-Up Genius form in their weekly newsletters during the week of 10/11. Families are asked to sign up with one team teacher, who will be able to address any any core class concerns, and if you would like, any encore teacher that you would like to see (Art, Health, PE, PLTW, Tech, Music). Encore sign ups will also be included in the team newsletter.
If your child takes a class with an different grade level teacher and you would like to meet with that teacher (for example, a 6th grader may take a 7th grade math, or an 8th grader may go "off team" for math), please contact that individual teacher to set up a conference.
Please reach out to your child's team if you have questions or concerns. Thank you!
veteran's day festivities!
A google form has been sent to all families to RSVP. Please see the link below:
We will provide a light breakfast, and then go into the PAC for an assembly that both Mr. Albright and Miss Sponsler, are leading with our BMS Choir, and our Pride Council Members.
WE WOULD LOVE TO GET PHOTOS OF OUR VETERANS. PLEASE EMAIL THEM TO MRS. SPONSLER AT SSPONSLER@BCSOH.ORG. YOU CAN ALSO HAVE YOUR KIDS DROP THEM OFF TO HER--PLEASE LABEL WITH YOUR VETERAN'S NAME AND BMS STUDENT'S NAME--THANK YOU!
If students are coming out of class to attend the assembly with their families, their teachers will be made aware. The assembly will begin at 8:30 (light breakfast) and end around 9:30. All kids should be back in their 3rd period class. We are looking forward to celebrating our Veterans!
varsity football game expectations.....please review with students for future games
counselor corner
During the first few days of school, the school counselors introduced themselves to each grade level and discussed how they can assist students academically, emotionally, and socially. Students were asked to use the Counselor Meeting Form when they would like to meet with their school counselor. All current 7th grade students have a “Class of 2027 Guidance Google Classroom” where links/information/updates will be shared.
BMS students will be working with their counselors doing new lessons on the Naviance Program. Naviance is a college and career exploration website. All Brunswick Middle School students have a Naviance account and will do different activities with their school counselor each year. Students will continue to use this account throughout middle school. The link to Naviance is in student Google apps. 6th grade students will have received their Naviance lesson by the beginning of October. 7th grade students will be participating in their first Naviance lesson the last week of September/beginning of October. 8th grade students will all have received their Naviance lesson by the end of September. Please take some time to have your student show you this wonderful college and career readiness resource.
6th Grade students will be getting classroom guidance lessons on character education called Anti-Virus beginning in October. The lessons will be once a week for 10 weeks through science classes. Please reference your child’s team newsletter for the upcoming presentation dates.
Beginning the last week of September, 8th grade students will be participating in a presentation through language arts class called LifeAct. LifeAct is a depression awareness and suicide prevention program. LifeAct is a two day presentation that is designed to educate students on signs and symptoms of depression, teach them how to engage with others that they are concerned about and empower them to seek out help for themselves or others. Please see team newsletters for the exact dates your child’s team will receive this presentation.
In addition to the services the school counselors provide, Brunswick Middle School is fortunate enough to have Sarah Billittier, Student and Family Support Specialist and counselors from OhioGuidestone in our building to assist with the needs of our students. If you feel your child could benefit from meeting with one of our counselors or have any questions regarding these programs, please contact your child’s grade level counselor.
