"Where it's always a good day to be a Bison!"

News from Mrs. Marlatt!

We look forward to another wonderful week in Bison Nation!

At Second Creek, we believe in positive interactions with students. We subscribe to the idea that pointing out the POSITIVE creates more positive interactions. One way we do this is by teaching out students to be Bison S.T.R.O.N.G. (Safety, Teamwork, Respect, Ownership, Never Give Up and Gratitude). Staff teaches these concepts and students are rewarded with positive Bison Bucks whenever they are showing these positive behaviors. (If you have been at Second Creek for a while, you might remember this as R.O.C.K.S. Behavior.)

On Friday, we will celebrate students who have shown excellence in Safety with our Bison Strong Parade. Staff has nominated students for this special celebration, and the digital parade is ready to go! Students will be celebrated in class and throughout the school as students watch a video that highlights a student from each class. Now that you know about Bison Strong, you can ask your student about it at home.

Please Help Keep our Students and Staff Safe!

We continue to have issues dropping off and picking up students. PLEASE SLOW DOWN! The max. speed in the "Hug and go" lane is 5 miles per hour. We want at all cost to avoid a serious accident in our parking lot.

  • Please leave the handicap parking for those with handicap licenses.
  • Please obey the cones! They are there for everyone's safety! Please do not go around them. Be patient.
  • The front of the school is not for parking. It is a "hug and go" lane, and buses must be able to drive through in order to pick up students.
  • If you drive the inner circle PLEASE don't let you child out until you have turned into the parking area.
  • Many parents park on the side streets and walk over to our school to either drop off or pick up students. This is a safe option.
  • Officers will be at Second Creek at dismissal to help us keep our students safe.

Please remember our staff is doing our best to keep everyone safe. If they ask you to move, please move. If they point something out to you, it is because we see an issue with safety. We are doing our best and we appreciate you working with us.

Parents, we start our learning at 7:50am. It is very important that your student is here and ready to start the day at 7:50am.

Thank you!

If you are still hanging on to a Chromebook checked out to your child last year, please have your child bring it to school as soon as possible. If the Chromebook is broken or lost, we still need to know. We keep records through Infinite Campus, and are unable to check out a Chromebook to your child if he/she already has one checked out to them.
Big picture

Parent-Teacher Connections (Conferences)

At Second Creek, we enjoy interacting with our parents and guardians. We believe you know your child best and we grow a lot from interacting with you! We believe that ongoing communication with parents is the best way to support student leaning.

October is dedicated for Parent-Teacher Connections. You will hear from your classroom teacher as he/she connects with you about your child's leaning. If you have met with your child's teacher, or had a recent IEP meeting to support your child, you might not need an additional meeting. Your classroom teacher will be in touch. All connections will be online or by phone this year, as we continue to try and minimize Covid exposures. Let the celebration of leaning begin!

October Count is Coming!

We are three short weeks away from October 1st. This is an important date for all schools and it happens every year. Our school funding is determined by how many students attend on October 1st. This year, October 1st is a Friday. It is very important that all students are present that day. We have more students than anticipated, but we will not be able to enjoy the extra funding unless students are present when we do attendance. We appreciate your support in getting your student here on time everyday, but especially on October 1st.

What Will Teachers Learn this Week?

Every 3rd Wednesday of the month is a special time for teachers to observe their colleagues in action. We believe that our school has an amazing staff. Different grade levels will visit classrooms and observe staff and students. Then we will come together for a debrief. We believe we learn a lot by watching others, and we are looking forward to a great day of learning on Wednesday.
