Language Workshop

This week we began our second Language Workshop unit of the school year. We will be answering the question: What makes someone a problem solver? The first book we read was Peanut Butter and Cupcake written by Terry Border. Peanut Butter was trying hard to find a friend to play with, but no one seemed available. Until he met Jelly. At the end of the story the characters all played soccer together. Jelly could teach Peanut Butter how to kick the ball, and Peanut Butter could teach jelly how to balance a ball on his head. Peanut Butter never gave up while he was working to solve his problem. It was hard, but his hard work payed off in the end!

Reader's Workshop

We have been continuing to work on increasing our reading stamina! We are able to read for seven whole minutes without any interruptions! We have also been practicing reading on our Raz Kids apps and exploring different collections through Epic.

In Phonics, we have been practicing our letter sounds. We have also been really focusing on writing our names with just one capital letter. We brainstormed different things that began with the letters of our names and displayed our work proudly in the hallway. We wish you could come see our work in person!

Math Workshop

We have wrapped up Unit 4 (Describing & Locating Position) and have begun Unit 5 (Measurable Attributes & 2D Shapes). We have been learning about how to use preposition words correctly and what they mean. We practiced using words like in, on, under, in front of, behind, next to, and between.

We practiced these skills by using teddy bear counters and putting them in the correct position. We also did a directed drawing activity where we had to listen very closely to follow the directions correctly. Below is a favorite song that we sang to learn our new words!

Next week we will continue learning about 2D Shapes and how they are similar and different from one another.

It has been lots of fun learning about living things and non-living things this week! After finding non-living things inside of our classrooms, we got a chance to take our iPads outside to hunt for living things! Next week we will be exploring what living things need in order to survive.
