Major Saver Kickoff
Platte County Education Foundation Fundraiser - September 7-19
Next week, we will kick off our Platte County Education Foundation discount card sales program. Our schools, in conjunction with Major Saver, work with businesses throughout our District to offer a $15 discount card providing customers with 21 local buy-one-get-one-free or discount offers. In most cases, redeeming only two offers offsets the cost of the card. Proceeds from the card campaign directly benefit your student's school and the Platte County Education Foundation. The Foundation gives back to the Platte County R-3 community by awarding annual pre-K through 12th grade classroom and building site grants, as well as senior scholarships. Your student will be bringing home an envelope with information and instructions on Wednesday, September 7, and will be instructed to not go "door-to-door," but to offer to relatives, friends, co-workers, etc. Collection dates start on Monday, September 12, and the program wraps up on Monday, September 19. Please consider purchasing a card and supporting our schools! You can also purchase cards online here.
Coffee & Conversation with Dr. Jay Harris, Superintendent
Barry Families! Our new Superintendent, Dr. Jay Harris, is inviting parents and community members to join us for "Coffee & Conversation" connections in our buildings, starting with Barry School on Friday, September 9 from 7:45-8:45am in our cafeteria! These informal events are designed to share our District goals and listen and learn from families to improve our overall educational experience for our students. We hope you can join!
FastBridge
Upcoming English Language Arts and Math Screener (Fastbridge) to Guide Personalized Instruction
Students in PCR-3 participate in screening in English Language Arts and Mathematics as a way to provide information related to skill acquisition in those areas. This assessment, known as FastBridge, replaces STAR, which was used in the District for quite some time. Fastbridge is a nationally normed screener and is a skills-aligned assessment that will inform instruction to best meet student learning needs. This assessment will be administered three times this school year: Fall, Winter, and Spring. Our Fall window runs September 1 - September 30. Students do not need to prepare for this assessment and the results are used for informational purposes only.

REPEAT: MIDDLE SCHOOL CELL PHONE EXPECTATIONS: To Ensure a Focus on Learning and Connecting
Parents, please note the updated middle school cell phone expectations for this school year. Our focus is on student learning, support, and connections. To minimize disruption to the learning environment, phones should not be used during class times (from bell to bell). Cell phones may only be used before or after school, or during passing periods after arriving in class and before the bell rings. Additionally, to encourage appropriate social behavior, we are not allowing technology during lunch. In the past, technology was allowed during lunch, but we are going to prioritize conversations and being present with our classmates over technology, starting with this school year. There will be times for technology at lunch as an incentive for positive behavior, but to start the year, we are engaging with each other IRL (In Real Life).
We have communicated these expectations to students this week, and explained our reasoning:
- We are a place where we connect face-to-face, in-person.
- We are a place that sees others, talks to others, and we are with others.
- When we do use our phones, we use them for good (no pictures/videos, donât speak badly of others).
If you need to reach your student, please call the office at 816-436-9623.
