The weekly newsletter for all things Phoenix

Principal's Note

Hello Phoenix Families,

As July is nearly behind us, many of us are beginning to turn our attention to the upcoming school year. Included in this summer newsletter, you will find supply lists, important beginning-of-year dates, and other information you may need heading into our first day of school in our new building on August 18th. We are scheduled to be able to fully move into our new space after next week, and we are so excited to get the chance to make this building into our home and share it with you! If you have any questions as summer winds down, please do not hesitate to call (614-450-4100) or email ( the office. In the meantime, embrace the remaining days of summer vacation, and we will see you in just a few short weeks!

Your Principal,

Mr. Flynn

Important Dates

August 12 - Parent Night 7pm

August 14 - Ice Cream Social 3pm

August 18 - First Day of School

August 24 - Picture Day

Parent Night - August 12 - 7 PM

Parents will meet with grade-level teams to discuss important information regarding the upcoming year. Meet the teachers, ask curricular questions, and learn about important dates and events for the 2021-2022 school year! We will be meeting in our new Phoenix space.

Ice Cream Social

August 14th from 3pm-4pm will be the return of our annual Ice Cream Social for all Phoenix students and families. We will have free ice cream for our students, courtesy of PTSA. We also plan on passing out yearbooks to those students who ordered them last year as well as Chromebooks for our district's new 1-to-1 program. We typically do not open up the building during this day, but we will make an exception so that you can get a glimpse of what our new space looks like (please keep the ice cream outside). Most importantly, get the chance to meet and socialize with other Phoenix students and families as we prepare to begin our new year!

Annual Student Information Review & Update

Parents, please log in to the Worthington Schools parent portal to review and update the emergency information that we have for your student.

Classroom Fees

The Worthington classroom fee for your middle school student will soon be available for payment through the My Payments Plus system.

If you think you might qualify for free or reduced fees, please complete the Worthington Schools free and reduced meal application at

Transportation Information

Our district staff is finalizing bus route information. This information should be available in August.

Students that live outside of the walking area will be picked up at group bus stops and ride the bus to their neighborhood high school in the morning, where Phoenix students will transfer to a shuttle to come to Phoenix in the morning. In the afternoon, Phoenix students living outside of the walk area will have transportation to their afternoon bus stop.

Phoenix students participating in school athletics at their neighborhood middle school will have the opportunity to ride an afternoon shuttle to their neighborhood middle school. Students riding the athletic shuttle will need to sign out on a clipboard each day before leaving Phoenix.

School Safe System

Phoenix Middle School uses the School Safe System for student sign-outs. Parents will need to bring their driver's license to sign-out their student through the School Safe System. During the sign-out process, parents will have the opportunity to create a digital pass to use (instead of a driver's license) for future sign-outs.

Phoenix Handbook

This handbook outlines key concepts and basic procedures of Phoenix Middle School. It is the staff’s hope that the information presented will be useful as the new school year gets underway. During the year, please inform staff members if there is any additional information you would like to see in this handbook; suggestions are always welcome that help Phoenix Middle School be the best place possible for students, families, and staff!

Please note that there is also a Worthington City Schools Middle School Handbook. The Phoenix Handbook serves as an addendum to the Worthington City Schools Middle School Handbook. Also, this handbook is created with a typical school year in mind. During the COVID-19 Pandemic, certain aspects of our school will be impacted, and that information will be sent out separately.

Phoenix Picture Day On August 24

Picture day at Phoenix will be August 24. Students will receive an order form. Parents can either send the completed order form with payment to Lifetouch on 8/24 or pictures can be ordered on-line at using Picture Day ID EVTB6HB6N.
