Principal's Message
Dear Oak Hills Families,
I hope you are planning to join us for our STEM Night/ Future Ready Open House from 6-8pm tonight. In the gym area, you will find the science projects, creative STEM projects engineering projects and the engineering challenge for all grades. In the cafeteria, you will have the opportunity to code with our coding robots, Dot and Dash. In the library, you will be able to do other hands on coding activities. The Future Ready Bus will be parked at our entry way and will have many cool gadgets including an augmented reality sandbox. The interactive sandbox projects a topographic map onto the sand and as you change the shape of the sand, it redraws the map.
All our classrooms will be open as well. Kindergarten will be displaying their Adobe Spark videos based on the penguin project. First Grade will be showing their Seesaw projects with Adobe voice and also run the Adobe Spark videos on writing. Third, Fourth and Fifth Grade will be showcasing many projects that include coding robots and Scratch, Storybird , Adobe Spark, and maker space projects.
I would like to thank Rebecca Leibowitz and all our parent helpers for running the amazing STEM fair. I would also like to thank our teachers and staff for working so hard to get our school Future Ready. I am so proud to be a part of this very innovative school.
Looking forward to seeing you tonight.
Warm regards,
Sheila Baumgardner, Principal
Maker Space Workshop
Today was Day 2 of the Maker Space training for my primary teachers. Students had the opportunity to go deeper with the different activities that they were exposed to two weeks ago. Students coded the Ozobot robots that are “color sensitive.” To code these robots, students drew a path way that they color coded. Each color represented a specific action that the Ozobot would take. Students also used the OSMOs to code a character in a game, work with tangrams, work on spelling, and/or manipulate a ball on the screen. A third activity involved the Codeapillar. Essentially a Codeapillar is a large caterpillar that has coding segments and the coding sequence determines the movement it follows. Students were very engaged and excited about their Maker Space Workshop.
