Microsoft Office Benefits

Students in Omaha Virtual School will use Microsoft Office products regularly with their students. Some of the programs they will use in the classroom and at home are:

  • Microsoft Word: The flagship word processing program of the Microsoft Office suite.
  • Microsoft Excel: Creates graphs and spreadsheets, arranges data, and organizes information.
  • Powerpoint: Creates robust slide deck presentations.
  • OneDrive: a cloud storage application.
  • OneNote: a note taking application. Each student will have a shared One Note notebook with their classroom teacher.

  • One benefit to being apart of Omaha Public Schools is the five FREE Microsoft accounts available to use on personal home devices. The additional five accounts only expire when if the student leave OPS. They will give you access to all of the above programs!
  • Core Values: Collaboration

Our 3rd core value we would like to share is collaboration! Collaboration is a HUGE part of our school community. Our school works best when we work as a team with the school staff, parents and students. Last school year, we collaborated as a whole school to pick our school mascot. After the students and parents provided their input, it was narrowed down to the Ocelots! The students recognized the ocelot as a character within Minecraft, which is used as an educational tool among all OVS teachers for learning. All students had the opportunity to choose the symbol that would represent our school community.

Our Synergy group evolved after our first school year and the needs identified from families within our community. Synergy is run similarly to a PTO, where they help support our teachers and students through a variety of fundraising opportunities. The members of Synergy help support new and returning Learning Coaches to become acclimated to the virtual school environment. They continuously collaborate to provide our Learning Coaches with a Coffee Bar, where parent donations keep the coffee pot busy on any given Learning Center Day.

Collaboration is one of the KEYS to our success at OVS! What does collaboration look like to your student? What does it mean for the learning coach? How will you collaborate with our school to enrich your student's learning experience? Discuss what collaboration means to your family and how you will collaborate with OVS this school year.

    Upcoming Orientation Schedule

    K-10th Grade

A PARENT ONLY orientation will be held August 1-7th for NEW and RETURNING families of kindergarten-10th grade students. During the parent orientation session, staff will review updated policies and procedures in our student hand book. We have enhanced our procedures for the upcoming school year, so it is important that all families attend. Please sign up HERE for the session you are planning to attend.

    K-8th Grade
As part of student on boarding, parents and students are required to attend a Back to School Night on Thursday August 9th between 4-6pm. This is a drop-in event and families do not have to stay the whole time. During this event, families will have the opportunity to meet their student's Learning Facilitator and pick up their device and accessories. Students must pick up their device prior to the first day of school.
