Up & Coming Events
Wednesday - AVID College Shirt Day
Saturday - GDP UCLA, 6th Grade Science
Open House
All professional staff is required to attend. Please park in the back of Oakwood, in the back lot at College View, and in the front of College View. We need to leave our front lot empty.
Our format has changed this year and parents will be able to come and go during their designated time. This will also be when they can decorate their students' lockers.
It's important that you keep your conversations with parents brief. If you have a parent that is wanting to share a great deal of information, please encourage them to schedule a conference.
Teachers need to have something that explains their classroom procedures on a loop running on their Smart Boards. Each team should have a combined flyer with relevant information.
Please wear your new staff shirt with dark pants.
PTO will be providing sandwiches in the workroom.

Behavior Tip of the Week: Para Verbal Communication
Has someone ever told you, "It's not what you SAID it is just HOW you SAID it?".
This saying is the concept of Para Verbal Communication.
Para Verbal Communication is comprised of three components. Attention to TONE, VOLUME, and CADENCE are KEY!
As you begin to grow new relationships this school year with your students, consider the Para Verbal Communication you are portraying to them.
The video below gives insight into how adult commenting, conversation, and behavior can positively and negatively have an impact on our students:
Locker Locks
Red Folders
Locked & Propped
Counselor's Corner
We have placed some school supplies in the mail room. Please take any supplies that you need.
Rocco's corner
Please take the time to review with your students the expectations during a lock down drill. Remember, no students are to be dismissed from a room that has been cleared until the drill is complete.
SPED
If you have a student with an IEP who is struggling with manipulating their locker/lock, please encourage them to practice using their lock. Please communicate this information with the student's case manager. Content Mastery is available to work with students.
Also, there were a few teachers that did not complete all of their verification forms (VOM's). Case managers will be dispersing this form directly to the teachers. Please read the IEP, sign and initial the form, and place in the teacher's mailbox. Once all the VOM forms have been received, Ms. Barnwell will place your teacher copy for your records in your mailboxes.
The SPED case manager list will be undergoing edits for the first few weeks of school, so if a student's case manager changes, you will be notified via email of the change.
