Dear Harmony Community,
Welcome to the 2020-2021 school year at Harmony Public Schools.
We are truly excited to begin another school year of learning, opportunity, and achievement for our 35,000 students across the state.
We all know that this will be a very different school year. Instead of opening campus doors this week, most of us will be opening laptops from home.
In recent weeks, we’ve shared a number of details with our Harmony community regarding the start of our new school year. Those updates include the need to begin our school year remotely, our campus reopening plan and enhanced safety measures, and our new virtual learning system Schoology.
However, what we will soon show is that what will define 2020-2021 is not everything that will be different at Harmony Public Schools, but everything that will remain the same.
That’s why these are our unwavering, unchanging goals for not just this year, but every year:
· To provide each student and team member with a safe, caring, and collaborative academic environment where learning can flourish;
· To teach each student the value of character, and its importance to their long-term success as students and members of their communities;
· To create a clear and achievable path through college and beyond for every Harmony student;
· To equip students with the real-world skills they will need to be successful in college and their future careers through the integration of workforce-relevant technology and learning methods;
· To work together — as students, teachers, school leaders, parents, and community members — to find opportunities for growth in the challenges that face us.
As a school system, we set these as our priorities because in meeting them we know we will have equipped our students with an educational experience worthy of their futures.
This year, we also are proud to announce the expansion of two new programs designed to help our current students and alumni well past their years at Harmony.
First, we are expanding resources for our College & Career Success Program, which debuted in 2019. Through CCS, students will graduate Harmony with a plan for their futures and a clear, achievable path through college and into the workforce through ongoing counseling and support beginning as early as elementary school. Students will also be offered accelerated academic paths starting in middle school, which in turn will allow them to complete college-level coursework while still at Harmony. Once they graduate, our students will then be able to enter college with multiple credit hours — if not semesters — already completed, making the rest of their college journey faster, easier, and more affordable.
For alumni already pursuing their futures after Harmony, this year we also are debuting GraduLet. Through GraduLet, our alumni and other Harmony community members can attend college online and graduate with a workforce-ready Bachelor of Arts degree in as little as 1-2 years, and at a fraction of the traditional cost. Perhaps most importantly, GraduLet gives scholars the flexibility to attend college on their own schedule and on their own terms, so working students, those taking care of children, or those who have other daily demands can complete college without derailment.
Both CCS and GraduLet are closely aligned with our 2025 Strategic Plan, which you’ll also be hearing much more about in the coming months.
They’re also two reasons why we’re excited to begin another great school year at Harmony Public Schools. We hope your family is excited for all the new school year has to offer, too.
On behalf of our entire Harmony family, thank you for joining us in 2020-2021.
Sincerely,
Fatih Ay
