This week in Pre K
Happy Friday to all!
We met our Letter Buddy Young Y this week! We learned how to write the letter Yy in upper and lower case, We learned the sound of Y and how to recognize the letter in print. We worked on our sight words he, she, like, I, love, yes, and no. We practiced writing the words in our robot sentences. We made sentences saying I like to eat.... and he or she likes to eat.... We also practiced recognizing the sight words in print. We had fun cutting out y's and sight words from magazines. It was a great way to recognize out words in print! We brainstormed and charted Y words. We practiced our letter recognition and phonics with sight word sliders. We also practiced handwriting Big Y and Little Y's in our phonics books, journals, and on our own.
We learned about and celebrated Groundhogs Day on February 2nd, The groundhog did not see his shadow! Early Spring for everyone! We read many books about Groundhogs day including GO TO SLEEP GROUNDHOG! and Wake Up Groundhog!! We enjoyed a special "dirt dessert" made from chocolate pudding, crushed oreos, and gummi worms.
As a special Y activity we read the story Extra Yarn by Mac Barnett. We thought of ways we could use more yarn just like the little girl in the story. We used our sight words and white board words to help us make sentences. We used our best handwriting and lower case letters when writing. We created awesome self-portraits and added lots of glue and yarn to make our creations complete.
In Math, we focused on practicing our number writing and addition skills. We used pom poms to help us count and add. We counted by sorting colors and size of pom poms. We also practiced addition on worksheets which helped us to identify the addition symbol and counting number sets together.
In Social studies we reviewed maps. We got a chance to look at different types of maps on Brain Pop Jr. We talked about how we can read maps by looking at the map key. We talked about the compass rose which tells us about the directions north, south, east, and west.
