UPDATE: Duneland School district Stop Arm Violation Enforcement (S.A.V.E.)
In an effort to crack down on school bus stop arm violations; local police departments in the Duneland School district area have been participating in the statewide campaign, Stop Arm Violation Enforcement (S.A.V.E.).
This program is intended to prevent violations through high visibility enforcement (HVE) by following school bus routes to provide on the spot enforcement for violations.
Since the program kicked off on August 14, police officers from Chesterton, Burns Harbor, Porter, Porter County Sheriff and the Indiana State Police have been following Duneland School buses. Along with Duneland's purchase of stop arm cameras on 16 buses, this high visibility enforcement is helping to keep Duneland students safe by increasing awareness on the roads.
After just two weeks of school, area police officers from throughout the Duneland School district have already ticketed at least 25 motorists with stop arm violations.
