FROM THE PRINCIPAL
November 1, 2022
Greetings!
October was a month of laughter and fun in learning. The month began with an outdoor learning/camp experience for 5th graders who chose to participate. This opportunity was possible for the first time in over a decade thanks to our fantastic classroom teachers, school counselor, and parent volunteers. The 3 day trip to Camp Killoqua on Lake Goodwin in Stanwood was highly successful and we’re hoping this will become a new tradition for years to come.
Another fun opportunity for learning fun was participation in school spirit days. During the last week of October, staff and students could be found dressed up for Pajama Day, Class Color Day, Wacky Day, Sports Day, and Disney/Story Book Day. I sometimes think the staff enjoys these special days even more than the kids.
As we begin November, the SLE staff are excited to meet with students and families during conference week and welcome you to visit your child’s teacher in person or via Zoom. Engaging our families and community is a top priority for Silver Lake Elementary and we encourage full participation in being learning partners in our journey to improvement. November is a month of reflection and giving thanks. We will recognize the efforts of our students this month, show appreciation for our Veterans, and celebrate Thanksgiving. Please know that we thank you and appreciate you for all you do to support our school.
In partnership,
Silver Lake Principal, Theresa Campbell

Safety
During the month of November, our school is going to practice lockout drill skills. During a lockout, no person (parent, student, staff member, guest, etc.) may enter or leave the building and classes will proceed to the extent possible. In a lockout situation, our school will post the sign at right in the front door window to alert visitors about our drill. If you see this sign, please, return to your vehicle and report back when a drill/situation is over.
This is a reminder that the school is a closed campus when the school is in session. The gates close at 9:15 am and open at 3:25 pm for students’ drop off and pick up. If you are a visitor, please, check with the main office and wear a visitor pass. We would like to partner up with you on providing the safest environment for our students possible.
Attendance
As we prepare to take a short break from school for Thanksgiving, we want to express our gratitude for everyone who makes it possible for as many students as possible to come to school every day, on time, ready to learn. We thank:
- Our students and families for making daily attendance a priority since they know the habit of attendance will help them do well in the classroom and eventually in a job.
- Our wonderful teachers who pour their energy into making each classroom an exciting place for exploration and knowledge so children do not want to miss out on learning
- Our support staff and community volunteers who provide the extra hands and attention our children need
We appreciate each one of you so much. We look forward to seeing you after the Thanksgiving holiday. We also hope you will keep in mind that school is closed on November 23, 24, and 25 and reopens November 28th. We especially appreciate everyone’s efforts to avoid taking extra days off during the Thanksgiving holiday. Just a few missed days here and there, even if they’re excused absences, can add up to too much lost learning time and leave your child behind in school. This is as true in kindergarten as it is in high school.
PBIS (Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports) at SLE
This year our office team is implementing Mustang Praise – a positive phone call home. Any staff member can recognize a student for following the school-wide expectations by being Safe, Responsible, Respectful, and Kind. Calling students’ families encourages good behavior and creates strong teacher-student bonds. We look forward to making more and more positive phone calls home and celebrate your child’s success together.
