Yarbrough Elementary Newsletter
From the Principal's Pen
It is my pleasure to welcome everyone back for another great year at Yarbrough Elementary. Our faculty and staff are happy to have our students back in our school, filling it with excitement for learning.
Our dedicated team of teachers grew over the summer with the addition of three teaching units. This team of teachers is actively planning engaging lessons for our students that I know will bring a renewed energy for learning. We know that in order to be successful, our students need teachers and parents working together. A strong partnership with you will make a great difference in your child’s education. Our PTO is always looking for active parents to help support our school functions. Please visit our Facebook pages (Yarbrough Knights and YES Parents) for updates and ways you can support our school.
Sincerely,
Pete Forster

The Counseling Connection with Mrs. Walsh
During the first month of Guidance we will be getting oriented to the Y.E.S. Counseling program. Students will learn about various ways that their counselor may help them. Students will be seen every other week for a Guidance lesson. Guidance lessons stem from ASCA National Standards as well as Alabama Grade-Cluster Standards, which focus on academic development, personal/social development, as well as career development. Students may also be seen in small group settings or individually if the need should arise. Students will complete an information sheet to help the counselor get to know them and learn of any concerns that may need to be addressed. We are a school that grows leaders therefore The 7 Habits of Highly Effective Children will serve as a foundation for our lessons. We look forward to serving you and your children this year.

Leader Lessons
Habit #1 is "Be Proactive."
Key phrase: You're in Charge
What this habit looks like in action: I am a responsible person. I take initiative. I choose my actions, attitudes, and moods. I do not blame others for my wrong actions. I do the right thing without being asked, even when no one is looking.
We plan to implement the habits in several ways this year.
· The 7 habits will be incorporated in daily conversations, peer discussions, and lessons.
· Auburn community leaders will be invited to discuss how they practice a specific habit and these interviews will be shown on the school's weekly news broadcast.
· Students will be provided with the opportunity to be leaders around the school and in their classroom.
· Our school Leadership Chant will be recited each morning to remind students of the habits daily.
· Each student will set academic and behavioral goals that are measurable, achievable and results focused.
Yarbrough staff is focused on growing leaders one habit at a time!
