Superintendent's Weekly Update - April 26, 2019
The track meet is on as scheduled. Might be a little cold but please come out and support our student-athletes at the Tim Downey Invite. It is always a great competition.
I received a question regarding the possible levy in the future in my questions form at the bottom of my update. Question - When do you anticipate a decision on additional operating money?
As you recall, we decided to pull the levy off the ballot as a result of the anticipated revenue collections from the Nexus Pipeline. We anticipate that we will annually receive between $700,000 to $900,000 from this. We believe that collections will start in February of 2020. We believe it will be closer to the $900,000 but you never know. We want to be conservative in our projections.
We will have an updated forecast presentation at the May Board Meeting (May 21st 6pm in the HS Library). At this meeting, we will have a detailed look at the latest numbers that we are forecasting with new staffing projections, nexus $, and the state budget. The new state budget will be released in late June. We have a very early projection but they are attempting to overhaul the funding formula for schools so we really do not know how it will shake out at this point in time and will not know any more than we know now in May. The new funding formula that was released a few weeks ago, has Otsego receiving $160,000 in additional revenue but this assumes around 400 million dollars to be set aside for additional school funding state-wide. At this time, we cannot assume this will happen and unfortunately we will not know until late June on the possibility of this new funding amount.
We will continue to update the community as our conversations progress. Thank you for your continued support of our students and staff. #OtsegoProud

Announcing our NEW Summer Art Studio grade 7-12!!!
The BGSU School of Art would like to share an exciting new summer studio we are offering this summer for grades 7th – 12th
We are offering a 10 day Summer Studio Art Camp that will focus on TAB style teaching (Teaching Artistic Behaviors) or student center teaching rather than the traditional teacher centered. This is a fairly new concept in art education that is producing wonderful results with students. In a TAB style studio setting the students have a lot more say in the media and style they want to learn more about. The teachers roll is then to provide artistic inspiration, teach individuals technical skills in their media of choice and provide mini lesson that would introduce students to design and related materials they may not have experienced before. Students will also have the opportunity to learn more about portfolio development and art school admission.
•Our dates are: Wed. June 5th – Wed. June 19th
• Our times to meet: (Mon-Fri.) 12:30 – 3:30
• Our location: BGSU Fine Art Center
• Our cost for the 30hrs of instruction is only: $150 (payable by check only for this first year)
Being that this is our pilot summer we will be keeping the number small. If you as a 7th-12th grade is interested and/or you know of a friend that you would like to invite, please feel free to send them this invite.
Parents to register your son or daughter you may contact me directly and I can send you the registration forms. You can also simply register online at:
