Making Friends
Everyone is doing so well with checking their schedule and rotating throughout the classroom. It's such an important learning behavior to be able to follow a routine, and the kids really strive in this highly structured environment. We're continuing to work on cleaning up and participating in a variety of other self-help routines.
Here's a peek into a few parts of our day:
Outside play time is another time that we get to play with other friends as we share the playground with Miss KC's class. We've been doing a lot of water play outside so you might be noticing your child coming home in different (dry) clothes.
Our toy area of the classroom has been set up with a doctor/hospital theme. The kids enjoyed playing the different roles of doctor and nurse while they took care of each other and the animals in our classroom. There was a lot of cooperative play, turn taking, and empathy. Next week in our toy center the dramatic play area will include items related to school, sports, and the park.
In art we will continuing with a mix of open ended art activities as it's very important for the kids to explore different materials and learn through the process of art. We had a blast painting our huge ball pit box. I recycled a furniture box to make our ball pit and it looks beautiful now that the kids have added their art to it! We've been exploring with apples and just recently painted/stamped using real apple slices. We'll continue to mix in art activities that build up fine motor skills, communication, following directions, and other academic components.
During circle time this week we have discussed a variety of emotions/feelings such as happy, sad, scared, silly, tired, angry, etc. This goes hand in hand with our social-emotional curriculum and our beloved Kimochis which are always available in our Calm Corner. We're learning about the days in a week and talking about "yesterday", "today", and "tomorrow". We love counting how many days until the next classmate's birthday!
During PE we've practiced riding on tricycles, using scooters, and a big parachute-just to name a few things! As you can imagine there are many wonderful language opportunities built into this part of the day.
REMINDERS/UPDATES
- The Child Development Center will be having a Halloween Parade followed by classroom parties and a Halloween themed day of learning and fun on Monday, October 31. The parade will last about one hour in the morning, and parents are welcome to attend during that time. More details to come soon!
- Please remember to send your child with a water bottle and continue to label all of their belongings.
- If we're sending home wet pants, we'll be sure to make it clear whether this was from an accident or from outdoor water play. Usually only shirts are getting wet during water play.
