Duveneck Connections

Home of the Dragons - August 19, 2020

Dear Duveneck Dragon Families,

Happy 3rd day of school! Today’s column will be a lot of nuts and bolts information that I hope you find helpful.

New 4th Grade Teacher

As you know, Mrs. Therese Walls, 4th grade, will be taking a leave of absence early next month. It is my honor to introduce you to her replacement for the rest of this school year, Ms. Sloane DeVoto. Ms. DeVoto taught in the Los Gatos School District for many years. She loves teaching and working with students and considers herself a lifelong learner. In her free time she enjoys yoga, hiking and spending time with her dogs. One fact that you may find interesting about Ms. DeVoto is that when she was a little girl, she used to ride her horse on the Duveneck Ranch in Los Altos Hills. Welcome Ms. Devoto to our staff!

Back to School Night - September 1, 2020

This year, Back to School Night will be held on September 1. This is a very important beginning of the school year event where you will learn about our curriculum and instructional program. Our entire presentation will be online. Here is the schedule we will follow:

General Meeting: 5:00 - 5:25 PM

Grades TK-2 Meetings: 5:30 - 6:15 PM

Grades 3-5 Meetings: 6:30 - 7:15 PM

Zoom invites from your child’s teacher and from me will be sent to you soon. Please look for it in your email inbox.

Distribution of Supplies & Materials for Grades TK, 1 This Friday, August 21, 2:35 - 4:00 PM

This Friday, we are holding a second distribution of supplies and materials for students and families in grades TK and 1. This distribution will take place in our front parking lot on Alester Avenue. Please write on a piece of paper either TK or 1 so we know what grade you are collecting for and put that sign in your windshield. We will then place the items directly in your trunk. Please stay in your car with a mask on and windows closed at all times during the distribution. Thank you!

Exchanging Devices

Some of you have been asking me when and if you could exchange your device for another one. I learned from our IT Tech Support person for Duveneck today that we are holding off on swapping out devices that students picked up in the Spring until our new Chromebooks arrive. The order of 2800 new Chromebooks ordered over the summer was delayed and now has an ETA of mid-September. As soon as these devices arrive, we will set up an exchange process for our school. Thank you for your patience with this process.

I hope you and your family are staying safe, happy and well.
