Book Fair Is At Hopewell!
Hello from the Hopewell Library where I’ve been putting together this year's Book Fair and Yearbook!
Our Fall Book Fair vendor has changed for the year.
We'll be trying out Literati. They have a fantastic selection of books!
They also have a digital Gift Card option for parents who prefer NOT to send cash with students (similar to eWallet from previous years).
You can purchase digital Gift Cards for your student from now until the Book Fair ends.
You can get them at www.tinyurl.com/HopewellFairFall23
The Book Fair will take place Nov. 27 - Dec. 2. (We will be open during the Holiday Extravaganza!)
I'm looking for parent volunteers to help at the Book Fair during school hours.
Please email me if you're interested!

Word Work Ideas:
- Sound boxes- see this blog post on how to use the sound boxes. Words to use that we have been practicing at school are one syllabe with, blends (sm, dr, bl etc.), digraphs (th, sh, ch, wh), silent E words (name, blame, bike), 2 vowels go walking (beat, peel, mail).
- Sight words- This resource shares many ideas for activities to do at home. One of my favorites is to pick words and have them on notecards going up your staircase or on walls. As your child walks by each evening have them read them!
- Vowel valley- play games such as find the vowel, which vowel is in the word ____, go around the valley and read each sound.
Math:
- We have been doing lots of addition! Ask your student to show you have to break apart numbers.
- This website has some at home game ideas. I love the hat trick or number hunt!
- This is a great addition math game you can play with just a deck of cards!
Reading:
- Below is a link for series books at each grade level
- The following are conversation starters you could consider when reading books together at home:
- Students retell (in sequence) important information from text.
- Students talk about own experiences (text-to-self).
- Students make connection between texts (text-to-text).
- Students share opinions about the text and the pictures.
- Students relate new information learned in the text.
- Students notice and discuss how the characters change.
- Students infer feelings, motives, characteristics of characters and
- show evidence in text and pictures.
- Students notice how the writer has made the story funny, etc.
- Students infer cause and effect.
- Students confirm or disconfirm predictions that were made before
- reading.
- Students discuss how the author uses descriptions,
- comparing/contrasting, and problem/solution.
- Students notice print features such as photographs/captions etc.
- Students discuss how the characters could have acted differently.
- Students agree or disagree with the text.
If there is anything else I missed that you would like, please reach out to me!
Birthdays
Approved Birthday Treats:
Students may bring a birthday treat or favor to school to share with their classmates, as long as they come from our list of treats that contain none of the eight (8) major allergens - milk, wheat, egg, soy, peanut, tree nut, fish, and shellfish.
Thank you for understanding that all classroom treats must come from this list because we do not have the staff capacity to check for allergens that could threaten the health of some students.
Please bring birthday treats ahead of time (two hours after the start of school, at the latest).
