Full-Year Distance Learning

Wednesday Weekly #3 August 26, 2020

Greetings from Mrs. Manou

Thank you for a wonderful week one! It was exhausting for all involved, so special thanks to our kids who persevered the tech hiccups and the new teaching format. We know it will only get easier with time and practice.

On Monday morning, I shared the first FDL Monday Morning Announcements. In my recorded message, I highlighted a life skill that our program will focus on for the next few weeks. The life skill of "perseverance." I shared with the students that perseverance means when you are facing a challenge, you use your mind and body to overcome it. Demonstrating perseverance means you are able to wait and work through difficulties. The example I shared with the students is that even as an adult, I practice perseverance by taking a break, breathing deeply, and closing my eyes to try to relax, I go for a walk to think of steps to help solve my challenge and/or I talk with someone such as a family member or my dog, Charlie.

I want to highlight this life skill because we all are facing different challenges in life and we want to equip our children to develop strategies to persevere. This week, I will be asking students to share examples of the strategies they use to help them when they are faced with challenges or moments when they demonstrate the life skill of "perseverance."

Greendell "Special Pickup" for FDL Students

Many of the FDL teachers have requested to have a "special" pickup scheduled for their students. Most of the items to support distance learning instruction is coordinated with your home elementary site. However, since we have students from all twelve elementary sites, we need to send home some additional supplies that are FDL classroom teacher requests. The FDL classroom teachers have arranged a "special pickup" on Friday, August 28th from 2:00 pm-3:30 pm at Greendell Elementary.

Your teacher will reach out to you if your class will be organizing a pickup.

Reminder! Greendell for Attendance

Since the Full-Year Distance Learning program will be virtual for the entire year, we have been assigned to Greendell Elementary for attendance purposes. We are very fortunate to have the amazing office staff to help our FDL families.

The attendance email is greendellattendance@pausd.org. This is the best way for a parent to report an absence.

The office phone is (650) 856-0833. Voicemails left on this phone number will be forwarded to the Greendell office staff.

Reminder! PAUSD Zoom Guidelines and Norms for Students

Please take time to review the PAUSD Zoom Guidelines and Norms for Students attached below. Even though the Full-Year Distance Learning students will be home all year, we need to remember that this is a PAUSD school program. Let's make sure we follow these guidelines to build a collaborative classroom community that promotes an environment of learning free of distractions.

FDL What'sApp Group

One thing that came up at our Parent Coffee last Friday was a desire to create an FDL communication resource. Some of the families immediately created a WhatsApp FDL group. To join, please select the following link: https://chat.whatsapp.com/C8VDj4cbM79IA4PFZHTS4d

FDL on Facebook!

Another great way to meet other FDL families is by joining the parent sponsored FDL Facebook group called "FDL parents community." Contact Corinne Haböck at corinne.haboeck@swissonline.ch or for more information.
