THE PATRIOT POST
Newsletter for PHES Students and Families
On May 2, the RISE testing, which is given to all students in grades 3-8 in the state of Utah, begin. Students in grades 4-8 will also take the Science version of RISE.
What can you do to help your child be prepared for all this testing? Here are some tips:
- Talk to them and get them excited about testing. Let them know you are interested in how they do and you want them to grow but, most importantly, they need to know that when they do their best you will be proud of them, no matter the results.
- Get them to bed on time. Little brains need rest for the test!
- Feed them a healthy breakfast or make sure they get to school by 7:30-7:45 so they have time to eat a school breakfast before they go to class.
- Talk to your child's teacher about how he or she is helping them prepare for the test and ask how you can help.
- In some cases it may be helpful for your student to practice testing at home using the RISE training tests, but you might consider consulting with your child's teacher first to make sure your efforts are coordinated. Students are tested heavily this time of year and the last thing we want is to increase anxiety or burn them out before the end of the testing cycle.
