Dear Southeastern Families:


Summer reading is so important for students. It stimulates their imagination and expands their understanding of the world. It helps them develop language and listening skills and prepares them to understand the written word. Let’s keep our Explorers reading and growing this summer with some of these great resources!


Summer Reading Resources

SES Open library hours:

SES Librarian Jen Robinson will be offering open library hours & book checkout for SES students and their families. Parents can accompany their students into the building to check out a library book on the following dates and times:

Virtual Lunch with Jen Smith

This is the last week for our virtual lunches with Counselor Jen Smith. This is not enrichment or a lesson, just an opportunity for our virtual students to "socialize" with their grade level peers. They will be able to use the same Zoom link (below) each week. Virtual lunches will end Friday, May 21st.

Grief Support Group

Has your child or teen experienced the death of a significant person(s) in their lives? Brooke’s Place provides support groups, therapy services and community education to empower children, teens, young adults and their families to thrive in the midst of grief.

Brooke’s Place also offers the BP8 Program- an 8-week peer-based grief support group to be conducted at school during the school day. This group offers an opportunity for grieving young people to build supportive relationships and learn how to cope with the death of a significant person(s) in their lives.


SES school counselor, Mrs. Smith, will co-facilitate these groups with a Brooke's Place bereavement specialist. There will be a K-2 and a 3-4 group. As soon as there are at least 3-4 students signed up for a group, we will get things started. If you would like to sign your student up for one of these groups, please complete the attached permission slip and return to Mrs. Smith. If you would like more information you can visit the Brooke's Place website: www.brookesplace.org or email Mrs. Smith at jensmith@hse.k12.in.us.

Roary's Outreach

Parents, if you are interested in Roary's Outreach Food Distribution, please contact our school counselor, Jen Smith, at jensmith@hse.k12.in.us to sign up. Pick up is May 15, 2021, at HSE High School, Door 21, 10am to 12pm.


Please drive to Door 21 at HSE High school. Open your trunk, and your food will be delivered to your car.

Virtual Only Students, Please Join Us.

Students who are attending school virtually, you are welcome to join your class for some end-of-year special activities:


  • Thursday, May 20th, kindergarten through 3rd grade will have year-end classroom parties. Your classroom teacher will be able to share this time with you .
  • Monday, May 24th, SES field day. Your classroom teacher will be able to share their assigned Field Day time slot.
  • Wednesday, May 26th, fourth grade celebration and end-of-year clap out. Fourth-grade students are celebrated for moving on to fifth grade with a student and teacher "clap out" at the end of the day. Fourth grade celebration takes place from 11:30-2:55. The clap out will take place between 3:00 - 3:30.

During the week of May 24, we will be collecting iPads from students who rented an HSE device. Collection dates are as follows:


May 24 – Kindergarten, 1st, and 2nd grade collection

May 25 – 3rd and 4th grade collection

May 26 – Virtual Students collection until 6:00 pm.

Fourth grade students transitioning to the HIJH next year.

Save the date for HIJH Panther Preview on Wednesday, July 28th from 2-7. More details to follow as the date gets closer. Please access the document attached below with information about Hamilton Southeastern Intermediate and Junior High School.


School supply kits for the HIJH are still available for online purchase for fifth grade students. Please access the supply list by clicking this link. Account number 30065. The kits contain the supplies requested by 5th grade teachers and will be available for pick up at Panther Preview at HIJH on July 28th. Need a new backpack? You can also purchase a new one with a supply kit! Order deadline is May 21st.

Enrollment for 2021-2022 school year is now open. Please click this link for more information. If you previously enrolled with Southeastern Elementary, and decided not to attend this year, and would like to re-enroll, please contact Cheri Burks at (317) 594-4340.

Due to the later start time, elementary schools will not be serving breakfast.


For the lunch Meal Deal, students must pick a fruit and a vegetable, an entree, and 1 milk is included but optional.

2021-2022 School Supply Lists and Kits

The PTO is selling school supply kits for the 2021-2022 academic year. 1st Day School Supplies will help parents and teachers get the exact supplies needed for next school year. Kits will be pre-packaged and sent to your home prior to the start of school. If you would like to order school supplies through the PTO, please click this link to place your order. Classroom Activities

Mrs. Huffer's Fourth Grade Class

Last year, Mrs. Huffer's class wrote and was approved for a 2021 Student Led Grant for animal enrichment activities. This year's class was able to utilize the grant at Conner Prairie to build goat feeders and chicken carts. Both ideas incorporated simple machines and animal research. Pictures of their project are below.

Operations Plan Contact Tracing Update

CHANGES TO CONTACT TRACING


  • HSE schools will immediately contact Fishers Health Department and/or Hamilton County Health Department upon learning of a positive COVID case among student body or staff. The Indiana State Department of Health will lead contact tracing and case investigation in consultation with FHD.
  • As of Feb. 17, general notification of COVID-related cases in schools via Skylert will cease. Families will only be notified if their student(s) are a close contact. This change in practice is to reduce confusion.
  • All COVID-related cases among students and staff can be found on the COVID-19 Data Dashboard and is updated on Monday mornings. The dashboard was created to provide transparency about what is happening in the school corporation.

HSE Report it!, can be downloaded via Google Play or the Apple App Store. It’s anonymous and reports are made exclusively through the mobile app. HSE Report it! has no length limitations. Reporters can attach photos, screenshots, videos, documents and/or audio recordings to their concerns and they can engage in a two-way dialogue with a real person.
