Thank you for nominating students for assistance at Christmas. All children have been "adopted".
AVID
The AVID students collaboratively wrote poems to say thank you to their teachers. Below is a compilation of their efforts.
WE ARE YOUR AVID STUDENTS
We are your AVID students.
We thank you for all your hard work.
We hear your speeches of encouragement.
We pretend to hate this subject.
We are proud to have you as our teachers.
We feel your love for us.
We worry we won’t be as bold as you.
We know we give you a hard time.
We touch your stuff more than our own.
We think you are mean but we know you’re just trying to help.
We are very grateful to have you.
We try our hardest to make you proud.
We hope you never leave our side.
We are your AVID students.
Martin's World
Lisa Edrington and Vince Hughes have been added to the list of teachers who have documented their 6-hour Level 2 GT Update. Their project packets each included a copy of a lesson/unit they planned and implemented and then the reflection sheet with some great reflection on the planning and implementation process. Congratulations!
StuCo
StuCo would like to provide popcorn for each team during the week of December 12 - 16. Team leaders, please use this document to sign up for a day and Success time. https://docs.google.com/a/csisd.org/document/d/1wk_4NU-oZVlq4edh6lDYmx9R-L9fiy2ZYc3nweQNdp8/edit?usp=sharing
School Choice
I am sure that many of you are like me and get confused about the various flavors of school choice being touted across Texas and around the nation. This opinion piece from the Waco Tribune by Texan economist Ray Perryman does a great job of detailing the pros and cons of three types of choice programs used in other states. Please make sure you read to the end to see his take on the school choice measures and their potential impact on Texas public schools.
Literacy
Modeling, as opposed to simply explaining or telling, can be a great instructional strategy to increase student understanding. Instead of telling the students what to do, simply model the process for them. You can include examples of how you might think through the process of completing the task or what you might do to problem solve.
It is easy to use this instructional strategy with vocabulary. You can easily model what it is like to read any content, come across a misunderstood word and show students how you might solve the word’s meaning by thinking aloud. Here are some strategies for you to try if you would like to model this with your content vocabulary within a text:
Model using context clues to determine a word’s meaning
Model using prefixes or suffixes to determine meaning
Model using other known words to determine meaning
- Model using the word wall to determine a previous word’s meaning
Christmas Party
The porch at Ozona has been reserved for Oakwood. We will not be buying everyone's meal, but we will provide appetizers and desserts.
