REPORTING COVID-19 CASES AND POSSIBLE EXPOSURE
SIU Carbondale encourages the reporting of confirmed and suspected cases of COVID-19 among students, faculty and staff. The university works closely with the Jackson County Health Department, which is responsible for tracing cases, notifying individuals of possible exposure, and directing isolation and quarantine of ill or exposed individuals.
PRIVACY
The university has an obligation to protect the privacy of individuals who have been diagnosed or exposed, including those who are part of the contact tracing process. Please remember to honor this commitment to privacy for those who contract the virus.
NOTIFICATION
Individuals who may have been exposed to COVID-19 will be notified directly through the contact tracing process. Students, faculty and staff are required to assist with the process when asked and to follow the instructions of health officials if they are asked to isolate or quarantine.

Multi-factor Authentication (MFA)
Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA) will be required for students beginning January 27, 2021. All are advised to enroll in MFA now to avoid disruption to email and network access, SalukiNet, D2L, and other services. The Office of Information Technology has implemented this and other security measures to better protect your user credentials and accounts, and continues putting stronger security measures in place.
Once enrolled, you will be prompted to respond to a second step in the login process. This will occur at least once every seven days, and whenever your device or browser requires your password. You will continue to enter your username and password, but will then be prompted to accept a push notification on a smart phone app or enter a code sent via text,
to complete the process. If you don’t want to use your phone, you can purchase a token that generates a unique code to be entered at log in as part of the MFA process.
Please give this your utmost attention as access to vital SIU services will be affected if you delay. Contact SalukiTech for assistance or to purchase a token: (618) 453-5155 or salukitech@siu.edu.
Spring 2021 Involvement Fair
Due to the current conditions regarding COVID-19 in the Southern Illinois region and the campus's event guidelines, we will not have our Spring involvement fair in person this year. This Spring, we will be uploading short videos to YouTube for any RSO who would like just like we did in the Fall. If you submitted a video for the Fall semester, we will use that same video. If you would like to submit an updated video, you may do so. If you want to submit a video, send us a two – three-minute video (without background music) using the following OneDrive link, https://saluki-my.sharepoint.com/:f:/g/personal/alexander_maxwell_siu_edu/EvmmEYlpj_pPoi5r-YuSLWIB92iNgJJJWqSZKkrBW0QTRA.
In your video, we ask that you answer the following questions:
- What is your RSO?
- What does your RSO do?
- Who can join your RSO?
- How can they join your RSO?
- Are there any dues or fees associated with your RSO?
- Why did you join your RSO?
The Office of Student Engagment will begin uploading to YouTube by January 21. If you cannot get a video to us by January 21, we will upload it as soon as we receive it. Please note due to Copyright concerns videos are not allowed to have music of any type.
If you have any questions, please email Alex Maxwell at alexander.maxwell@siu.edu
RSO Orientations
Every semester all RSOs must send representatives to an RSO Orientation. During this time, our office will talk about the resources we have available to you, expectations our office has for RSOs, and information about finances and scheduling. This semester we will once again be doing our Orientations via Zoom. Please sign up for one of the times below, and we will send the Zoom link to you closer to the orientation time.
In the past, each RSO has had to send two representatives. This year we only require one representative. Everyone present may represent up to two RSOs. We will have four RSO Orientations held on the following dates this fall:
- Monday, January 25, 2021, from 4:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m.
- Wednesday, January 27, 2021, from 1:30 p.m. to 2:30 p.m.
- Friday, January 29, 2021, from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.
Please sign-up for one of our four RSO Orientations by going to https://www.signupgenius.com/go/70a0d4fadaa28a1fb6-rsoorientation1.
If you have any questions, please email Alex Maxwell at alexander.maxwell@siu.edu
