School Spotlight- SVE Diversity Team

This week, I'd like to take the opportunity to shine a light on our student Diversity Team. This is a small group of students that range from fourth to sixth grades and led by SVE teachers- Mrs. April Paul, Ms. Kelly Dahl, and Mrs. Christen Pruett. These students are exploring the meaning of 'diversity' and how to spread that message school-wide. They are excited to be working on their next project which includes our student team members visiting classrooms and leading diversity activities, writing and reading messages about diversity and acceptance over morning announcements, and creating diversity segments for our SVE Channel 18 Broadcast. Take a look at the gallery below to see some of what this amazing team has been working on.

Culver's Night on January 29th to Support Job Olympics: Culver’s Night is an exciting fundraising event. Students from all three Middle School Life Skills Programs will be running food to customers to help raise money for the high school students in the Medically Fragile Program at Sunset Valley who are participating in Job Olympics. Job Olympics is an event in which high school students compete against their peers from the other high schools in Lee’s Summit, Center School District, Hickman Mills, and the Rainbow Center in a variety of job skills. Please mark your calendars to visit Culver’s on Wednesday, January 29th between 5:00 and 8:00 p.m. and Culver’s will donate 10% of all sales to the Lee’s Summit Life Skills’ Job Olympics. What a perfect opportunity to see our many middle school friends using their Functional Life Skills hard at work! We hope to see you there, whether you dine-in or drive-thru.
