Chancellor HS
May 10 - 14
Chargers,
With the final days of school approaching, please be on the lookout for any library books. You know, the ones hiding under your bed, in your little sister's room, or maybe still tucked in your bookbag. Seniors, books were due last week, but we'll still take them this week. Underclassmen, all books are due by this Friday, May 14th. Once returned, we'll even wipe the fine from your account!

Book of the Week
Refugee
by Alan Gratz
This heart wrenching novel focuses on three young refugees, their families, and the harrowing journeys they make to seek safety from the atrocities they face at home. Told in alternating chapters, each story takes place at a different time and in a different place, but through his storytelling skills, Alan Gratz weaves the three tales together with shocking connections that become clear at the end.
In the first chapter, we meet Josef: a Jewish boy living in 1930s Nazi Germany. With the threat of concentration camps looming, he and his family board a ship bound for the other side of the world…
Next, we meet Isabel: a Cuban girl living in 1994. With riots and unrest plaguing her country, she and her family set out on a raft, hoping to find safety in America…
And lastly, we meet Mahmoud: a Syrian boy living in 2015. With his homeland torn apart by violence and destruction, he and his family begin a long trek toward Europe...
Josef, Isabel, and Mahmoud face a number of challenges as they seek refuge, but regardless of their setbacks they keep hold of the hope that soon their struggle will cease.
