Be a Reading Warrior!

Fork Shoals is a proud participant in the Reading Warriors program. This program, sponsored by the Greenville Road Warriors ice hockey team, gives young readers the opportunity to earn a free ticket to the Reading Warriors Game Night by participating in the "Six for Sticks Challenge."

The Reading Warriors program runs now through the week of October 20th. Students may count books that they're reading for the school reading challenge. Reading logs for the Reading Warriors program are due to Ms. Knight no later than Friday, October 24th.

The 1st quarter reading challenge is underway!

Your child's goal: Read as many pages as possible between now and October 23rd. Reading logs MUST be turned in to Ms. Knight no later than Tuesday, October 28th. We’ll have prizes for those who read the most in each grade level, and every participant will receive recognition!

How do you record reading?

Use this reading log to document books read. List books (with page numbers) as you complete them. An adult must sign by each book read. Add the total number of pages read during the 1st quarter.

Book of the Week: The Fantastic Flying Books of Mr. Morris Lessmore by William Joyce

The Fantastic Flying Books of Mr. Morris Lessmore by William Joyce is a book-lover's dream, an Academy Award-winning short film, and a nominee for the 14-15 South Carolina Picture Book Award.

If you're trying to find the perfect gift for the book lover in your life, look no further than The Fantastic Flying Books of Mr. Morris Lessmore. This enchanting book shines a spotlight on the power of words, books, and stories in our lives.

When Morris Lessmore's own story is scattered in the winds, he is led to a building full of books seeking his attention. He gives them care and shares them with others. He also finds time to work on his own story once again.

Eventually, Mr. Lessmore finishes his story, leaving it with the books he so loved, and a new reader comes along to care for all of the stories left behind.

This vibrant, captivating book is sure to find a home in any library. When combined with the short film and the interactive app, The Fantastic Flying Books of Mr. Morris Lessmore is a reading experience that is not to be missed.

Are you reading the SC Book Award nominees?

Every year, the South Carolina Association of School Librarians nominates twenty books for four different Book Award levels: Picture, Children's, Junior, and Young Adult. Fork Shoals participates in both the Picture and Children's Book Award programs. Students who read at least five books from each level are eligible to vote for their favorite in February!
