Outbreak Conference
The 7th grade will be having an "Outbreak Conference" the last week of May. We are looking for guest speakers from the medical or safety community (i.e. police, firemen, EMS, etc.) fields. If anyone from our community is interested, please contact Dian.Beatty@lcps.org.
The "Outbreak Conference" is part of a Project Based Learning (PBL) program that was started last year. Sessions were offered about infectious disease in literature, the vocabulary of infectious disease, among others. Math classes also used formulas to calculate infection rates, etc. We will continue this PBL Program in 2020 and appreciate those that can take the time to be our guest speakers!

CENSUS INFORMATION
The Census is a nationwide count of everyone living in the U.S. and is conducted every 10 years. Residents will receive a letter in the mail in mid-March telling them how they can respond (phone, online, mail). The response window ends in May. Every person in your home of any age, relation, or immigration status should be counted. If you have relatives or children that split time in your home, they should be counted where they live and sleep most of the time.
WHY IS THE CENSUS IMPORTANT?
For every person not counted, Loudoun County expects to lose $2,000 in federal funding per person each year over the next 10 years. Your response makes sure Loudoun receives more than $31 million a year for programs that benefit every Loudoun resident, including many critical school programs. Most census funding goes toward our schools, so your response impacts your child's future.

FALCON TECH NEWS
Parents! Good News! If your student has lost the charger for their LCPS Chromebook, replacement chargers are now available for purchase at the discounted price of $20 on the Online School Payments for FWS. Chargers are also available for sale before school in the Falcon's Nest, the FWS school store.
Note that the replacement charger is the property of LCPS and at the end of the school year, students will be expected to return both the Chromebook and charger to FWS.
Parents, please be aware that Chromebook repairs for misuse and abuse are not covered under accidental insurance. Damage from overstuffed backpacks or closing the lid on pens, pencils, headphones, etc. is considered as misuse and/or abuse.
Here are some reminders for care and maintenance of student devices.
- Students should use their neoprene sleeves any time they are moving from one class to the locker, another class or to and from home. If they've lost it, they should purchase another one. Check out the Falcon's Nest.
- Students should never leave their device open unattended or walk around with it open.
- Carrying the device only by the lid can cause damage.
- The Chromebook with or without the sleeve should be on TOP of any stack, never ever under.
- Chromebooks in the sleeve in an overstuffed backpack will get damaged and are not covered under insurance.
Students are expected to bring their Chromebook to school every day and it should be fully charged. Periodic checks will be made between now and the end of school with RUs being distributed for those students that consistently bring their device ready for school. A fully charged device is considered being prepared for the day.
If your student has an issue with their device, fill out a Falcon Help Desk Form. The form is also on LCPSGo. Your student will then need to bring the device to the Tech Office in Lab 3.
