Boys State is a mock government program held at Radford University from June 16th-June 22nd. Students who attend are assigned to a mock political party and a city where they set up their own government. They learn the duties and responsibilities of the offices of which they are elected. Girls State Application Due Wednesday February 28th
Are you interested in attending Girls State? Girls State is a mock government program held at Longwood University from June 16th-June 22nd. Students who attend are assigned to a mock political party and a city where they set up their own government. They learn the duties and responsibilities of the offices of which they are elected. The application is due Wednesday, February 28th and can be found here. Applications must be returned to Ms. Yahl in the counseling center.
Spotsy Ambassador Application Due February 23rd
Are you interested in becoming a Spotsy Ambassador? Spotsy Ambassadors will be paired with new students to help them with the transition into the SHS. The application is due Friday, February 23rd and can be found here.

Lockdown Drill
We will be having a Lockdown Drill this week.
Immunization Clinic
Rappahannock Area Health Department will be here at SHS on March 28, 2024, to provide school-required immunizations (Tdap, Meningococcal ACWY, and HPV) to rising 12 graders. Consent forms will be mailed to the parents of all rising 12th-grade students. These forms must be completed in their entirety and given to SHS clinic nurse by February 16. Please take advantage of this easy way of obtaining your required school immunizations.
Forms will go out on January 29.

SHS Athletics
State Athletic Results
Indoor Track and Field
Senior Dante Chevalier had a strong showing with a third place finish at the Region 4B Track and Field Championships and qualified for the Class 4 State Championships in the Triple Jump. Dante will compete on February 26 at Liberty University.
Swim
Sophomore Aden Stephens finished 8th in the 200 yd Individual Medley and Senior Caleb Dawson finished 5th in the 100 yd Backstroke at the Class 4 State Championships.
Wrestling
Senior Seth Ayo finished 2nd in the 120 lb weight division, Senior Kyle Ciskari finished 3rd in the 157 lb weight class at the Class 4 State Championships. Sophomore Timmy Sullivan is the 2023-2024 VHSL Class 4 State Champion in the 215 lb weight division!!!
Spring Sports Tryout Information
Spring Sports are starting this week. Please see below for specific tryout information for our upcoming sports:
- Women’s Tennis will begin tryouts on Tuesday, February 20 from 2:45-4:00 pm. Interested candidates should meet in Coach Kissell’s room (136) at 2:30 pm. For more information, reach out to Coach Kissell at lkissell@spotsylvania.k12.va.us
- Softball tryouts will begin Monday, February 19 from 3-6 pm at the softball facility. For more information, reach out to Coach Buzzell at dbuzzell@spotsylvania.k12.va.us
- Outdoor Track and Field tryouts will begin Tuesday, February 20 from 2:35-4:15 pm. For more information, reach out to Coach Sayers at csayers@spotsylvania.k12.va.us or Coach Cole at scole@spotsylvania.k12.va.us

Outdoor Track and Field
Outdoor Track and Field tryouts will begin on Tuesday, February 20th, and end on Thursday, February 22nd. Athletes interested in trying out must have a current physical on file with the school or present it at tryouts. A student will not be permitted to try out without a physical. Athletes should meet coaches on the track by 2:35p. Tryouts will conclude each day at 4:15p.
Students are encouraged to dress appropriately for the weather, wear comfortable running shoes, and bring a water bottle. Email Coach Cole with any questions: coachscoletf@gmail.com
Pass Information
Tickets for all Home Athletic Events are available in advance at gofan.co for $7. Tickets can be purchased at the gate via Credit Card for $7. All Cash Tickets at the gate are $8.
Senior Citizens over the age of 65 are eligible for a Lifetime Battlefield District pass, gaining them entry into ALL Battlefield District Regular Season events. Show proof of age at the gate and get yours at any SHS event.
Ten Event Passes go on sale Monday during lunch shifts and will be available at the gate for all SHS Home games. Ten Event passes are $65 and are good for all Regular Season Home Events.
Student Athletic Passes go on sale Monday during lunch shifts! Student passes are good for every SHS, regular season athletic contests, for the duration of the school year. Just $50, grab yours soon!
It's Game Time!!
Reminder to all fans attending Athletic Events at SHS. It is Battlefield District policy that no bags are to be brought into any event. Exceptions for small, clutch purses (5" x 7"), medical equipment bags, and diaper bags for families with small children. No outside food or drink is permitted inside the gates, as well. Spotsylvania County Schools also prohibit pets on campus, which includes at our indoor or outdoor athletic events. We also ask that for the safety of all patrons, balls of any kind or other outside sporting equipment be left at home and not thrown, kicked, or batted around within the confines at Athletic events. Thank you for your support!
