The Gator Tales
The weekly staff newsletter for Glenwood Elementary School
Welcome Back!!!!!
Welcome back Gators!
RELENTLESS!
This is one of my favorite times of the year!Preparing for another school year is always so exciting. It is an opportunity to not only meet new faces, both kids and staff, but an opportunity change their lives. We have the opportunity to help our kids have a fighting chance at being successful in life, academically, socially and emotionally. As the principal, I have the opportunity to show our new staff members why Glenwood is the best place to teach!
Our focus this year will be SEL- Social and Emotional Learning. We have LOTS to celebrate with some of the highest SOL scores our school has seen, but we sill have LOTS of work to do. Even though we had a great SOL year we have room for growth with our special ed learners and English Language Learners. We will have on-going conversations on how to meet the social and emotional needs of our students. We will be RELENTLESS in our efforts to meet the needs of ALL of our students.
We will continue our SEL work by making Morning Meetings the foundation of beginning each day. Alexa Ambrose and Rachel Frattarelli had the opportunity to spend a week in June learning about The Responsive Classrooms. We will hear from them during our Monday meetings about why this is so important, and how that connects to PBIS as well as other things we do here at Glenwood. Morning meetings will be a non-negotiable this year. I have personally witnessed great things come from them in our classrooms so each classroom will be expected to schedule the first ten minutes of each day for Morning Meetings (with fidelity). Specialists will be asked to connect to a classroom each day to be part of that.
