Orana Catholic Primary School

Week 7 Term 4, 2020

Respect is an attitude of caring about people and treating them with dignity. Respect is valuing ourselves and others. We show respect by speaking and acting with courtesy.

A Prayer for Hope

Heavenly father,

I am your humble servant,
I come before you today in need of hope.
There are times when I feel helpless,
There are times when I feel weak.
I pray for hope.
I need hope for a better future.
I need hope for a better life.
I need hope for love and kindness.
Some say that the sky is at it's
darkest just before the light.
I pray that this is true, for all seems dark.
I need your light, Lord, in every way.
I pray to be filled with your light from
head to toe. To bask in your glory.
To know that all is right in the world,
as you have planned, and as you want
it to be.
Help me to walk in your light, and live
my life in faith and glory.
In your name I pray,

From the Principal's Desk

Dear Parents and Carers,

As we approach the end of the school year, we can all become tired and a little irritable. For the children of Orana, we are consistently encouraging them to keep the values of Orana in the forefront of their minds. We reinforce the values of generosity, respect and excellence on a daily basis. Please continue these conversations at home as we wish for our community to finish the year full of optimism and enjoyment of each others company.

The AGM was well attended on Wednesday evening. I wish to extend my gratitude to those who attended and gave witness to the wonderful collective capacity of our school community. The P&F officially said goodbye to two hard working women who have given so much. Thank you to Bronwyn Mattock and Nicole Shortland for your contributions to our school. Clarissa Van Der Heijden joins the Executive as the Class Representative Co-ordinator and Cory O'Kane as Vice President of the group. The Board farewell Jeremy Petersen and Paul Coghlan who have both contributed substantially to the School Board. It was announced at the AGM that the School Board will conclude at the end of 2020. The begin 2021, the group supporting school decision making will be known as the School Advisory Council.

•Catholic Education Western Australia Limited (CEWA Ltd) commenced operating on 1 January 2020.

•The Catholic Education Commission of WA (CECWA) is the board of CEWA Ltd and has responsibility for governing Catholic education in WA and for ensuring its financial sustainability.

•Given this change the Orana Catholic Primary School Board is now referred to as the Orana Catholic Primary School Advisory Council to reflect CEWA Ltd’s new governance structure. The existing CECWA Catholic School Board Constitution is currently under review by CECWA to ensure appropriateness and consistency with CEWA Ltd’s new governance structure. It is due to be implemented in 2022.

•The primary purpose of the Orana Catholic Primary School Advisory Council is to provide advice and support to the Principal in order that the Principal may lead the school effectively as a Catholic school community, with its evangelising and educational mission shaped by spirituality and educational practice.

Barbara Cook, David Giuffre and Chris Mattock will be joining the Advisory Council in 2021. The school community welcome you to your new role in supporting the group to support the leadership team in decision making that will positively impact educational outcomes and experiences for the children of Orana CPS.

Miss Purio, Mrs Marshall and myself attended the guitar concert on Thursday evening. We were entertained by host of amazing musicians who all should feel suitably proud of their achievements. I was so impressed with the professional approach all students adopted in their performance. Most importantly when there was a little bump, the performers soldiered on and continued performing. What a great tool to have in your toolkit. Congratulations to all performers, family members for supporting the students and Amanda their guitar teacher.

The weekend has finally arrived. The team has been super busy preparing for this event. We are capturing images of the work in progress and will be sharing this with the community once completed. Fingers crossed we will be able to unveil the room shortly.

With school holidays fast approaching, and the weather getting warmer (fingers crossed), many families are starting to prepare for the holiday away. The often-long car trip can often be intimidating for parents. Click the link below to find out more.

On Tuesday 24 November, selected Year 3-6 Orana students travelled to Len Shearer Reserve to compete against other schools in the CAPSS Inter-School Athletics Carnival. Our students represented their school well with amazing encouragement, support and team spirit throughout the day. They competed in an assortment of events including various distance races, long jump, shot put, turbojav and team ball games. The hot weather didn’t stop our students from having a wonderful time and trying their hardest.

A huge thank you to all the teachers, staff and parents who gave up their time to assist on the day. Well done to Mrs Joanne Godsall, Mrs Santa Ruffo and Ms Michelle Cottier who coordinated the SWANS events. Events like these cannot happen without your help and we appreciate your kindness so very much!

Orana finished up well on the day finishing in 4th place and leaving with three individual medals.

Well done to our three individual medalists Roman Doherty (Year 3 Champion Boy), Jake Baker (Year 3 Runner up) and Griffin Braine (Year 5 Champion Boy) and to all our competitors on the day.

Well done to all!!

Kind Regards,

Tayla Dennett

P & F News

The P&F Executive wishes to acknowledge and thank all of the volunteers for all their generous contribution to the P&F programs this year. Despite our challenges, we still managed to end the year with a number of accomplishments that we can be proud of.

On Wednesday 25th November, 2020, we held a volunteer appreciation sundowner event where we took the opportunity to get celebrate our work during the year. Following the event, Orana CPS held their annual AGM, in which the P&F farewells two key members of the Executive team in Nicole Shortland (VP) and Bronwyn Mattock (Classroom Rep Liaison). I would like to thank both of them for their contributions and support during the tenure. Without your support, we wouldn’t have so much wonderful accomplishments this year.

The P&F would like to welcome Cory O’Kane as the incoming VP, and Clarissa van der Heijden as Classroom Rep Liaison. They have been a keen contributor to the school community and always happy to lend a hand. We are blessed that they have decided to join the Executive committee and I look forward to the new year. Please join me to congratulate Cory & Clarissa. Onwards and upwards we go!

Currently we have the Wine Fundraising program active – please see the below flyer and support the P&F. This fundraising is active until 10th January, 2021.
