A Note from the Principal
Thank you to all of you for being so vigilant with your children and monitoring symptoms. Working together is the best way to keep all in our school community safe and healthy. One question that has arisen is whether a child should be sent to school if exposed to a person who had symptoms of COVID-19 and is being tested. Our advice would be to keep your child at home until you know the results of the test for the person to whom your child was exposed. Remember that your decision to send your child to school can have ripple effects that impact other students and staff members. We ask you to err on the side of caution.
Today in communication folders for grades K-4, you will find a permission form for students to take home devices (iPads or Chromebooks) to be used should we have to go to remote learning. Please know that our goal is to keep our students in school all year long. I have not received any sort of information that we are moving to remote learning nor do I want this to happen. We know that our students learn best in school and in person. We are simply trying to be prepared in the event that this would happen. My hope and prayer is that there is never a need for them. Simply complete the form and return to your child's teacher tomorrow.
Also included in the folders for the oldest/only child in K-8, you will find the Income Eligibility Form for 2021-2022. This form is very important to ensure our continued participation in federal and state programs, which provide a variety of materials and services for the children, teachers, and our school. All information remains confidential. Please complete this form and return it to your child's teacher tomorrow, as well.
Finally, two important reminders:
- Our Magazine Sale ends today in order for sales to be counted for prizes! Get those orders in by midnight tonight. Thank you to all those who have helped us so far!
- Picture Day is Thursday, September 23. Students may dress up for their pictures and bring their best smiles!
Grace and peace,
Ms. Diane Raguz, Principal

Arrival Reminders
- Students arriving by car are not permitted in the building until 7:40 a.m.
- Please pull up further beyond the overhang so that more cars can empty at once.
- Make sure your child is ready to leave your car before you stop. If you need to take some additional time with him or her, park in the parking lot and walk your child over to the school. No child is permitted to walk across the parking lot on his/her own, and parents must accompany them as they cross the car line to the overhang.
- If your child needs assistance getting out of the car, please park and walk them in so as to not hold up the line.
- Remember when children are exiting your car, all should exit on the passenger side for safety reasons.
- As you leave, PLEASE PROCEED TO BLUE RIBBON WAY (exiting on Wilson Mills) ONLY.
- Buses have the right of way. Please allow them down the driveway before your car. Often bus drivers will allow cars to go first, but never count on it!
- Give your child enough time to walk to his/her homeroom. As the weather changes, the car rider line becomes longer and time gets later. Develop the habit of getting here with many minutes to spare!
Thank you for your cooperation and understanding as the safety of all of our students is our foremost concern.

Walkathon Updates
Walkathon Recess Laps are Back!
During the next two weeks (9/20-10/1), each student will be given a lap card at lunch recess. They can choose to walk or run laps around the perimeter of the playground. Students choosing to complete laps may wear tennis shoes to school those days. Individual and homeroom laps will be recorded. Depending on the number of laps walked (40 Laps = Gold Medal, 30 Laps = Silver Medal, 20 Laps = Bronze Medal), the students will receive a medal to wear on the day of the Walk-a-thon. Top walkers and homerooms will be recognized on the Walk-a-Thon Wall of Fame. The homeroom with the highest average laps per student will receive the prestigious and sought-after Golden Shoe Award. We need EXTRA PARENTAL SUPPORT to ensure there are not the usual crowds of excited kids waiting for their cards to be punched. We want to have each grade go to separate parents to decrease the hole punch traffic. Please come as often as you can to help count laps! Here is the sign up link: https://signup.com/go/Xgbmvat Contact Colleen Grossner (colleen@fresh-you.com) or Grace Powell (powell.gracem@gmail.com) with any questions. Let's go SPB!
Girls on The Run
Friday Playground Supervisor Needed
Playground Volunteers Needed-Grades 6-7-8
We are asking that each family (mom, dad, grandma, etc.) choose at least two days to volunteer each time slot being 11:15 am-12:50 pm. There are many, many time slots open! We are so grateful for the help!
This is a great way for you to interact with your child and his/her classmates during the school day! Recess Volunteers should arrive to school at 11:10 and check in at the office. Duties will include supervising students at recess, escorting the students to and from the school doors. Volunteers will be with one school staff member each day to help direct.
Remember that after your two volunteer time slots, you are done for the year, as each month is assigned to a different grade.
COVID-19 Volunteer Protocol: all recess volunteers are required to wear a mask when in the building.
Thank you again for your time and service to the students and teachers of SPB! Simply click on the following links to sign up: Grade 8, Grade 7, Grade 6
