HSA Volunteer Sign Up
Garnet Valley Elementary Home & School Association is grateful for the volunteers who plan & prepare the many programs and events each school year to help provide the best school experience possible for our children. The HSA relies on volunteers to run smoothly, so if you can help just a little, it will make a BIG difference! Many of our volunteers find that they receive something in return for their time and talents:
• Spending quality time with your child and friends
• Investing your time in bettering our school community
• Making a difference in your child’s life by sharing your knowledge, experience and skills
• Developing leadership, communication and organizational skills
• Having FUN and making new friends!
At GVES we have a Committee for each program/event we do. The committee works as a team to plan and execute their event with the help of additional volunteers. One individual will be designated as the committee lead . The committee lead will be responsible for coordinating meetings, ensuring the committee is on schedule and communicating directly with the HSA Board. Each committee will also have volunteers to assist with the event as needed (i.e. volunteer during book fair, help assemble flyers, monitor mileage club). To sign up as a volunteer be sure to select "General Help" at the end of the survey.
Please sign up for as many committee opportunities as you are interested in. After you complete the committee portion you will be asked about being a committee lead. If you have students in multiple schools please note the time frame of events when signing up. Opportunities include Board positions, committee chairs, committee members, and event volunteers. We will contact you prior to the beginning of next school year. Please reply by June 7, 2019. Thank you.

Garnet Valley CTC Quick Tip #39 Safe Driving Habits
Did you know? This week the Mock Crash was presented to high school Seniors at GVHS. They also heard from a speaker from Cruisin’ Smart from Bryn Mawr Rehab. These programs have a strong impact on our students but they are not the game changer in how our teens will drive. You are!
84 % of the parents surveyed by Allstate admitted to speeding.
88 % of parents acknowledge they use cell phones while driving.
(Allstate Foundation Driving Change 2015,see full text of survey below)
According to a national survey by the National Safety Council (NSC), 91% of parents who drive distracted, do so in front of their teens [and younger kids]. A major culprit in bad driving behavior is the use of cell phones while driving, namely texting. https://www.nsc.org/road-safety/safety-topics/teen-driving

Call to action…You can make a difference every day you drive with your children and teens. Two of the major contributors to teen car accidents are speeding and distraction. Make those changes today and build the safe driving habits you would like your children and teens to have. Find teen driving statistics and tips to help from the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia below.
