Negley Mission Statement
CAPTAIN CROWTHER'S CORNER
Ahoy Navigator Parents!
We've had a great week at Negley! We had our 2 classes that were quarantined back at school, as well as many other staff and students!
This week we began our Fundraiser - Boosterthon! Our goal is to raise $35,000 to support our classrooms, Negley beautification plans, House rewards, and so much more!
Rumor has it that IF we reach our goal, then I will have to read a story from the roof of the school!!!! I'm pretty afraid of heights so.......we will see! I'll be super stoked to do it though, if we hit our goal!
Our Kindergarten students had their Pet Parade outdoors on Thursday. It's always so much fun to see all the different pets - and the boys and girls are so proud to show them off!
We ended the week with a MAD RESPECT dress up day. It's so heartwarming to see for whom our students have Mad Respect.
Have a wonderful weekend!
Captain Crowther

NOTES FROM NURSE JILL
Hello Negley Parents,
Please read below for some import information regarding Student Health Services.
- If your student needs to take prescription medication during the school day we must have a medication authorization from your child’s doctor. We will also need an emergency action plan for any student with severe allergic reactions, asthma, seizures or any other condition needing an emergency medication kept at school. These forms must be completed for each new school year.
- If your student is seen in the nurse clinic I will make personal communication with you via call or email for minor needs. If the situation is more serious or we need to have a conversation I will call you. Please make sure we have the most updated phone number in our system to reach you in the event of illness or emergency. Updated phone numbers can be emailed toNES.Attendance@hayscisd.net
Policy changes are based on guidance from TEA and the health department/CDC. Keep in mind that COVID continues to be a fluid situation and some changes to our policies may occur during the school year. Thank you in advance for your patience as I continue to navigate these guidelines and help keep your students and our school safe.
- If your student is staying home ill, you must call or email me so that we can have a conversation regarding your child’s health and clearance to return to campus.
- If your student is sent home sick, they will need to follow the same COVID protocol we had in place last year to be cleared for school.
Option 1: Student will stay home for 10 days isolation and symptoms must improve and student must be fever free for 24 hours
Option 2: Student will see their doctor to receive an alternate diagnosis and symptoms must improve and be fever free for 24 hours.
Option 3: Student will have a negative PCR test and symptoms must improve and be fever free for 24 hours.
- *District Quarantine Policy* If your student is identified as a close contact here at school: while we highly encourage COVID close contact students to quarantine for the 7-10 day period, students are not required to quarantine. If you choose not to quarantine, please monitor your child for symptoms and notify me of any changes in their health.
- *NEWEST District Quarantine Policy* If a student is identified as a close contact for a positive case in their home:
A Student is required to quarantine for a minimum of 7 full days if exposed to a positive person in their household. If they are able to fully isolate from the positive person; they can test (PCR test required not rapid) on day 5 and come back on day 8. If unable to fully isolate from the positive person their quarantine period will not start until after the positive person’s 10 days of isolation is complete.
- Also please email NES.Attendance@hayscisd.net explaining your child’s absence so that it can be coded correctly and they can be excused.
Please contact me for any questions or concerns.
Let’s have a happy and healthy year!

Counselor's Corner
Please be sure to check out the counseling webpage at
https://sites.google.com/g.hayscisd.net/nesschoolcounseling/home?authuser=0 where you will find resources, newsletter, lessons, and information about the counseling program at NES.
Guidance Lessons will be offered in person; however, if you would like to access additional lessons in Schoology, grade level codes are as follows:
PK: GRFK-F3CN-V88D2
K: NV9X-8Q39-FF2B9
1: V5CW-XR42-JV6RK
2: MNZ4-M54R-9HF46
3: XND7-6HW3-99JQT
4: F4JZ-NQ84-ZSGKW
5: VGPJ-F898-QBZV3
In addition, at the beginning of every school year one counselor responsibility is to reach out to families to see if they need any support or resources. One way the district identifies families as POSSIBLY needing support is based on the SRQ/residency questionnaire. This questionnaire which is completed at the time of enrollment lets us know which families may be doubled up temporarily (with family or friends) as a result of divorce, financial need, unemployment, natural disaster, etc… This SRQ also identifies any families that may be residing in shelters and campgrounds. The McKinney Vento program is a federal program that helps to support such families. This program is FREE, and no application is necessary. If your family falls under one of the conditions listed on the residency questionnaire your child may receive free food service, clothing, school supplies, holiday help, and possible transportation to and from campus (among other resources). Please just give me a call or an email if I may help in this area with any of the above available resources.

Library News!
We had a wonderful week in the library! Students learned about reading incentive programs for their grade level that are run through the Negley Library.
Kinder - Gator Readers - Fill out your first green form with the titles of 25 books you read at home with your parents. Return this sheet to the library when it is filled in and you can pick out a small prize and a new form. You will do this for three sheets, with 25 books on each sheet, and earn three small prizes when you turn in these forms. When you have filled out the final 4th sheet or 100 books read, you earn a Gator Reader's T-Shirt!
1st Grade - Reading Bingo - Read the books to color in 20 squares before Christmas break to earn your prize in the library.
2nd Grade - Reading Bingo - Read the books to color in 20 squares before Christmas break to earn your prize in the library.
3rd - 5th Grades - Bluebonnet Reading Program - Read 5 of this years Bluebonnet Books by January and you get to vote in the statewide contest to see which book wins the Bluebonnet Award. Read 10 Bluebonnet Books if you are in 4th or 5th grades or 8 Bluebonnet Books if you are in 3rd grade by April 1st and you will get to attend the Negley Bluebonnet Party. The party includes pizza, trivia, a craft, certificates, bookmarks and much, much more. Click this link for a list of this year's Bluebonnet Books.
The tracking sheets for Kinder, 1st and 2nd are completed at home and returned to the library when finished. We will still be handing these out to classes next week.
