More Book Awards from the American Library Association
The American Library Association (ALA) website is a great place to look for some award winning books. Award lists from this year and from previous years can be found here. I want to introduce you to three awards that are important for Intermediate age readers.
The Newbery Medal is given to the author of a children's book published during the previous year. The 2014 award goes to Kate DiCamillo for her book Flora & Ulysses: The illuminated adventures.

- The Year of Billy Miller, written by Kevin Henkes
- One Came Home, written by Amy Timberlake
- Paperboy, written by Vince Vawter
The Caldecott Medal is given to the illustrator of a children's picture book published during the previous year. The 2014 award goes to Brian Floca for his illustrations in the book Locomotive.

- Journey, written and illustrated by Aaron Becker
- Flora and the Flamingo, written and illustrated by Molly Idle
- Mr. Wuffles! written and illustrated by David Wiesner
The Sibert Medal is given to the author of an informational book written for children. The 2014 winner is Susan L. Roth and Cindy Trumbore for the book Parrots over Puerto Rico.
